Chapter 4 The Wedding
In the end, it was Loma who snapped back to reality first, letting out a sharp, startled scream.
That scream was like the play button on a paused video, jolting the entire wedding back to life.
Cadell’s eyes locked onto mine, full of disbelief and panic.
I looked at him with a half–smile, enjoying the sight of his unease.
The moment our eyes met, his face twisted in a mix of fury and embarrassment.
I heard him growl at me, “What the hell do you think you’re doing?! Turn off the video, now!”
I scoffed. So, he actually cared about how embarrassing this was? Funny, he should have seen it coming when he was cheating
on me.
When I didn’t respond, Cadell, without another word, tried to storm up to the stage, but my bridesmaids held him back with
surprising strength.
Fuming, he yelled, “Are you insane? This is our wedding day! What the hell is wrong with you? You’ve been dreaming about marrying me, haven’t you? Just tell everyone this is a stupid prank, and I’ll treat you right from now on!”
I couldn’t help but let out a sarcastic smile. Cadell truly had no shame, still assuming I loved him, thinking he could treat me however he pleased.
Even when I caught him cheating, instead of apologizing, he was asking me to step aside!
But he had miscalculated. I didn’t need him!
I turned my attention away from him and addressed the guests, saying loud and clear, “I’m truly sorry you had to see something so disgusting today. The truth is, I just found out yesterday that the man I’ve been in a relationship with for seven years, and was
about to marry, Cadell Hartman, has been cheating on me for over five years! Every time he told me he was on a “business trip.
he was actually in bed with someone else!”
I paused for effect, watching as Cadell’s face turned a shade of crimson. I made sure to speak every word slowly and clearly. “I
simply couldn’t tolerate this revolting behavior, so I had no choice but to expose him today. I know this may sound unbelievable, but if you don’t believe me, feel free to check the booklet in your hands. I’ve compiled all the evidence for you!”
The moment I finished, some guests immediately flipped open the booklets.
Cadell’s parents turned pale, clearly embarrassed. They were prominent.nobles, and with this public scandal, I might as well
have slapped them in the face.
Helen Corbella, his mother, shot a venomous glare at her son, as if blaming him for getting caught.
Then, with a fake smile, she walked up to me and said softly, “Aurora, calm down. There must be some misunderstanding here.”
She moved to take my hand, saying, “I know the wedding’s not over, but we’re practically family now, aren’t we? Why make such a scene? Whatever the issue is, let’s discuss it privately. Turn off the video, and let’s sort things out.”
I couldn’t help but lower my gaze and let out a small, mocking laugh.
Helen always played the role of the sweet, understanding mother. Before the wedding, she’d looked down on me at every
opportunity, but now, she was speaking to me like this?
I couldn’t help but laugh bitterly. I deliberately leaned into the microphone and said, “Misunderstanding? What misunderstanding? Cadell’s affair was as blatant as can bel He even went so far as to have Lorna Hill wear a custom–made wedding dress for the
event. What’s next? Marrying his mistress in front of me?”
The venue went silent in shock.
The guests who had been scanning through the evidence turned their attention to Cadell and Lorna, exchanging looks that seemed to question how anyone could be so shameless. A few murmurs began, and their eyes were filled with judgment.
Those looks were like slaps to Cadell’s face, completely destroying the carefully crafted image he had spent years building.
He glared at me, his teeth gritted as he shouted, “Aurora Wenmir! What the hell did I ever do to you to deserve this? Why are you making a scene at our wedding?!”
“Seriously?” I laughed bitterly. “Do you really think cheating on me is something to be proud of? is that not enough to make me
angry?
I couldn’t hold back my disgust. 1 really don’t get it, Cadell. How the hell did you manage to get Lorna to moan so loud when you’re so terrible in bed? Her moans are so fake. Can’t you tell? Cheating isn’t going to fix your issues. See a urologist when you
have the time!”
My words were like a final blow, crushing what little dignity he had left. Any man would feel utterly humiliated if their performance in bed was mocked like this.
And it wasn’t just Cadell who was furious–his father, Albert Hartman, was visibly seething too.
Seeing their faces twisted with anger, I felt all the resentment that had been building up inside me all day finally dissipate.
Lorna, still in shock, could no longer take the scrutiny. Screaming, she rushed towards me, trying to snatch the microphone from
my hand.
I was ready. Without hesitation, I kicked her away. She lost her balance and fell to the floor with a thud, dropping to her knees in front of me.
I couldn’t stop myself from laughing. What, you’re going to kneel and apologize now?”
Lorna’s fury was palpable as she tried to lunge at me, but her “bridesmaid dress” was so bulky that she couldn’t get up, causing her to make an even bigger fool of herself. In the end, she could only glare at me with a look full of venom.
Albert, taking a deep breath, seemed to be doing everything he could to control his temper.
The man was a businessman, so he knew exactly what to do–calm me down and avoid escalating the situation.
He softened his tone and walked up to the stage, speaking to me in a gentle voice, “Aurora, I think you’re mistaken. Lorna is my foster daughter, and she’s always been close to Cadell. There’s nothing going on between them, I promise you. As for this video,
it was probably altered.”
His voice was loud enough to be picked up by the mic, reaching every corner of the venue.
The murmurs from the guests died down just a little, and seeing it had some effect, Albert continued, “Come on, don’t make a
scene. I’m sure Cadell will explain things to you. What do you say?”
Then, in a quieter voice, just for me to hear, he added, “You’d better think this through. You don’t want to ruin your future over a moment of spite, do you? If I remember correctly, don’t you have a sick mother?”
His words, dripping with threat, made me burst into laughter. I couldn’t believe how shameless the Hartman family really was.
