Chapter 89 I’ll Teach Her a Lesson Myself
After Cadell was rescued, everything around me went dead silent.
The door to the dark room was shut again, sending the room back into pitch–black darkness
Perhaps because I had provoked Cadell, after he left, I could clearly feel the scent of the incense in the room
growing thicker and more oppressive than before.
I fought against the effects of the drugs, battling to keep my thoughts sharp.

A faint buzz at the back of my tongue signaled Cyril checking in on my safety. in
the corner to rest.
I couldn’t tell how much time had passed, but my stomach gnawed at me from hunger when the door to the dark room finally creaked open again.
It had been so long since I’d seen light that when the door opened, the searing light stabbed at my eyes,
forcing tears to spill out.
I heard a contemptuous snicker, and as my vision adjusted, I saw Charles standing there, his presence icy and domineering.
Behind him, Cadell sat in a wheelchair, his face twisted with malice.
I understood immediately–Charles was here to avenge Cadell.
When my gaze landed on him, Charles narrowed his eyes slightly and asked with a mocking tone, “Aurora, how does it feel? Still think you can waltz into the Hartman family’s secrets so casually?”
I stayed silent, and Charles looked down at me with a sneer. “Oh, I forgot. You don’t have a future anymore. Aurora, why couldn’t you just mind your own business? Look at you now, locked up here. Are you satisfied? Curiosity can be a dangerous thing, you know.”
I couldn’t help but smirk, a sharp edge of sarcasm in my tone. “Did you come all this way just to say that?”
“Of course not, Charles replied, his eyes icy. “Aurora, you’re nothing but a thankless snake. Cadell cares about you so much. He even brought you here willingly, and this is how you repay him?!”
He stepped closer, towering over me, and raised his cane, using the tip to lift my chin. The move was downright humiliating, and my eyes darkened instantly. Without hesitation, I slapped his cane away with
enough force to make him stagger.
Charles frowned, visibly humiliated, and his gaze turned even more venomous. “Aurora, I didn’t want to get my hands dirty with you, considering you once saved the Hartman family. But you’ve pushed your luck too far. I can’t tolerate your meddling any longer.”

I laughed coldly. “Cut the crap, old man. Just admit you’re ungrateful. Do you think a flimsy excuse away all the filth you’ve done?”
My words cut deep, stripping away the last shred of his decency.
I saw his eyes darken, his gaze locking onto me with pure venom.
Cadell shot me a venomous glare, his voice seething with anger. “Aurora, you’re heartless! After everything

Ive done for you, you have the nerve to betray me? People like you belong in helle
I raised an eyebrow, a smirk playing on my lips. “Oh? The ‘good‘ you’ve done for me? Like cheating on me before our wedding? Or shacking up with someone else right in front of me on our wedding night?”
At the mention of the past, Cadell’s jaw tightened, his face red with humiliation. “That’s all in the past. Why bring it up now?”
I let out a soft laugh. “Wasn’t it you who wanted to relive the past, Cadell? Don’t kid yourself. The so–called good you’ve done for me was nothing but pitiful and revolting. How do you even have the gall to bring it up?”
Cadell’s face twisted with fury. He turned to Charles, his voice cutting, “Grandfather, she’s clearly unrepentant. Why waste any more breath on her?”
Charles sighed, feigning pity. “What a shame, Aurora. I truly hoped you’d join our family. But you’ve only got yourself to blame. Look where your defiance has gotten you.”
He was quick to dodge responsibility, but I smirked and said, “Does spouting all this nonsense ease your guilty conscience?”
Charles’s smile wavered for a moment. I pushed through the ache in my body and continued, my tone light but razor–sharp. “With someone as ungrateful as you in charge, it’s no wonder the Hartman family has been spiraling downhill.”
My words hit a sore spot. The Hartman family had once been a force to be reckoned with, a true powerhouse. But ever since Charles took the reins, their fortunes had been in freefall.
Before I bailed them out, the family was on the verge of collapse, teetering on the edge of bankruptcy. It was only through my intervention and behind–the–scenes efforts that they managed to scrape by. But even then, they were a far cry from their former glory, now just a second–rate family at best.
And then, after Cadell’s betrayal, I pulled all my support. On top of that, I made sure their dirty laundry was aired for all to see, tarnishing their reputation beyond repair. Now, they’re barely hanging onto their status, teetering on the edge of being kicked out of the elite circle entirely.
This has always been Charles’s biggest regret. The Hartmans, for all their arrogance, were nothing but a bunch of incompetents.
Well, Cyril was the exception.
Maybe Charles’s reluctance to hand the family over to Cyril was driven by jealousy, too?
In any case, my words at that moment were like sharp knives, tearing apart the mask that Charles had so carefully maintained.
I had thoroughly enraged him. His face darkened, and even his fake politeness vanished.
I watched as he gritted his teeth and said, “Aurora, you’ve got a sharp tongue. We’ll see if you’re still so cocky when you’re talking to me in a couple of days!”
Then, his teeth clenched, he snapped at his men, “Take her away! We’re bringing her back with us. I’ll deal with her personally!”
Cadell’s face broke into a smug grin, his eyes blazing with hate as he stared at me. “Aurora, in a few days, you’ll finally understand just how good I’ve been to you.”
I smirked, my lips twisting with silent satisfaction. They were overjoyed at the idea of punishing me, but I, too, was delighted by how things were unfolding.
What they didn’t know was that their supposed cruelty was exactly what I had planned.
On the surface, it seemed like I was the one being controlled, but in reality, they were just puppets, dancing to my tune.
I couldn’t help but wonder–would Charles still be grinning when he finally realized the truth?
