#Chapter 10 Let’s Drink!
Helen POV

Three waiters came out to the table with the bottles of wine–four of them in total, one I knew was meant for me while three were there for Justin- alongside the wine glasses which were stacked into an intricate pyramid.
They made sure the glasses touched just so on their edges before pouring the bottles of wine one flight at a time. The bottom layer was a deep red cabernet sauvignon, while a rich merlot was poured into the glasses atop it, and the third flight at the peak was made up of a beautiful Malbec imported from Argentina.
I asked for the Malbec for my bottle because I knew it was a fine wine—so I thought it must be lower alcohol content because why would people drink a fine vintage only to become drunken fools?
Justin didn’t seem to have ever had wine in his life. He asked so many questions the waiters were all offering him suggestions as they finished the challenge set–up.
I could tell from the looks he was garnering, he’d captured their affection as easily as breathing and why not? He was handsome, powerful, and emanated a regal air which had somehow survived being locked away in chains for
years.
“I’ll drink my first glass now. Would you like to make the game more interesting, Helen?”
I wasn’t sure how the game could get more interesting. I’d never been a fan of drunks so I wasn’t looking forward to drinking to excess myself. My main hope was Justin wouldn’t be able to process the alcohol as he’d never been exposed to it before so he would become too drunk to stop me from retrieving my rings from his pocket and
running away.
He’d be hit twice as hard, wouldn’t he? Without any tolerance built–up?
My logic felt sound as I agreed with Justin to make things more interesting.
“Tell me your favorite color.”
I laughed in surprise at the request. No one had ever been interested in my favorite anything before. I couldn’t recall a single time in my life someone had asked my opinion on anything for myself.
“Green. What’s yours?”
“Green? Why green?” Justin asked, placing one empty wine glass upside down on the tray provided by the waiters.
“It’s the color of growing things. The forest. Spring. It makes me feel happy.“1
Justin drained a second glass as I sipped mine, asking, “What is your favorite time of day?”
“Dawn. The sunlight is never so beautiful and every new day brings new possibilities.”
“What is your favorite season?”
–“Spring. I suppose that’s obvious though because green is my favorite color for the growing things. I love seeing
all the flowers in bloom. There’s something magical about the new growth.”
We drank together slowly yet fast at the same time. Justin asked me question after question until I had drank two full glasses of wine to his eight.
I’d stopped trying to make sense of the questions he asked and simply answered now. My mind kept encouraging me to ask him for his answers in return, but it never seemed to be my turn to ask questions.
For all I’d thought Justin wouldn’t be able to hold his liquor, I was the one who was swimming in my chair while

he sat as sober as a judge across from me. Every sip I took felt more and more stout while Justin seemed to be drinking water in his glasses rather than wine.
Was that a reverse miracle? Was it a Lycan secret I’d never learned? How many Lycan secrets were there?
I kept thinking strange thoughts which were all over the map yet Justin focused his attention on me with laser- sharp intensity. He learned more about me over the course of our drinking challenge than anyone had ever bothered to ask in my entire life.
Strangely, I felt I knew him better as a result of his polite interrogation.
“Now we’re finished! What would you like to do, my Helen?”
I couldn’t stop my head from spinning. The room was buzzing from the intensity of my response to the wine.
Looking out into the village center, I noticed the dancers around the bonfire.
Our wolfen village celebrated every full moon with a bonfire around which there was dancing, laughter, storytelling, and playful fighting. I’d never been able to do more than sit on the outskirts watching before. Justin made me think I could go right over to dance myself.
Justin looked at me as if I were as beautiful as the Moon Goddess herself and I felt pure feminine power rise in me as the music around the fire drifted our way.
“I want to dance.”
“Then we’ll dance,” Justin agreed as easily as breathing.
No part of me wondered if he had any idea how to dance or if he did where he might have learned. I was beyond caring what either of us looked like and focused entirely on feeling his big, hard body against my own.
His arm went around my waist to nearly carry me to the dance area; I felt as if I were flying while we started to sway together.
His hips ground against mine and his shorts hid none of his excitement at the tease of my body touching his own. I threw out the edges of my apron to cover him slightly from view, hitching my leg up as high as I could to hook it over his hip so I could grind my sex against his thigh, his groin, his rock–hard cock barely covered by the tiny shorts he wore with my necklace inside.
“You keep looking at my shorts. Is this what you’re wanting?” Justin asked, pulling the chain free to dangle my rings before my eyes.
Dizzy from drink, I nodded and almost fell, “Yes. Yes, please. I would very much like to have it back. It’s the only jewelry I own. The only thing that’s mine, really.”
“Does it remind you of your mate? Do you wish you could get him back from your sister?”
Confusion scrambled my thoughts, making me furrow my brow as I tried to respond sensibly, “What? What does it matter where the rings came from? They’re mine. Give them back to me!”
“You want these back? Should I just give them to you? Like a gift?” Justin asked again, his hands huge and hot as they cupped the globes of my bottom.
“Yes,” I pleaded, grinding against him in a desperate attempt to get more friction on my flesh, “No man has ever given me a gift. Not even a flower.”
“I gave you a gift,” Justin whispered, “Do you remember what it was?”
I didn’t. I wasn’t sure what he was talking about at all. I remembered being kidnapped to serve as a tribute to his

beast then making heat–fueled love with him, then I had stolen him from his father’s clutches to set him free.
“No?”
“I gave you—me.”
Justin lifted me and my legs wrapped around his waist instinctively. I didn’t care who was watching, who could see, what they could see or even if my mate chose to strip me bare specifically to allow them to see as he took me.
I only wanted to feel his body against mine again. Inside mine. Thrusting and rutting and coming.
Panting, I nipped at his earlobe, begging, “Take me. I’m yours, you know? I’ll give you me. Right here, right now. I’m all yours, Justin.”
“I know. You’re my Helen and you’ve always been my Helen though you were a naughty girl who lied and said your name was Diana.”
I could sense playfulness in his tone more than hurt, but I wondered if it was a coverup. Had I hurt him with my simple lie? I’d only wanted to protect myself in the event he was a monster the way the stories told.
“I’ll never lie to you again.”
“Promise?”
I promised, knowing I probably shouldn’t yet not knowing what else to do because my body was on fire for his, “I promise you, Justin. I will never lie to you again.
Do you promise me you’ll keep me? You won’t reject me?”
