He hesitated, his eyes searching mine as if looking for something he wasn’t sure he’d find.
“I wanted to apologize,” he began, his voice thick with emotion.
“I know I hurt you. I didn’t trust you when I should have, and I’m sorry. I should have believed in us.”
The sincerity in his voice made my chest tighten, but I couldn’t let myself be swayed.
“Trust isn’t something you can just take back, Leo. You didn’t believe in me when it mattered, and maybe that means we were
never meant to be.”
For a long moment, silence hung between us, the only sound the gentle flow of the river beside us.
Then, to my surprise, Leo moved, dropping down on one knee in front of me.
My breath caught as he pulled a small velvet box from his pocket and opened it, revealing a stunning diamond ring that sparkled in the dim light.
“Elizabeth,” he said, his voice trembling with emotion, “I know I’ve made mistakes, but I love you. I’ve always loved you. I want you to be my Luna again. Will you marry me?”
Tears welled up in my eyes as I stared at the ring, my heart twisting painfully in my chest.
This was what I had wanted for so long–to hear those words, to be asked to stay by his side.

“I can’t, Leo,” I whispered, my voice barely audible. “I can’t go back to the way things were.”
His face fell, but he didn’t give up. “Please, Elizabeth,” he pleaded, his eyes filled with desperation.
“You’re the only Luna I’ll ever have. Just… please think about it.”
I hesitated, looked at the ring in the box.

I took a deep breath… and placed the ring in my palm and then suddenly,With a determined motion, I turned toward the river and tossed the ring into the water.
It sank quickly, disappearing beneath the surface without a trace.

A shocked gasp rose from the small crowd that had gathered, unnoticed by me until now,
But I didn’t care.
I turned back to Leo, expecting to see anger, hurt, something that matched the turmoil in my heart.
Instead, what I saw took my breath away.

Without a moment’s pause, he stepped forward and jumped into the river after the ring
The moment Leo’s body hit the water, the world seemed to slow down.
