Chapter 10

This was just too much to believe. No wonder Zaki hadn’t explained everything earlier. Thinking of this, Rosalie glanced at Zaki, and then shifted her gaze to Xyliana.
In stark contrast to the cheerful Xyliana who had just come in, Xyliana’s heart was now in turmoil. The mix–up left her feeling like she had been hit by lightning, and her face turned pale at the realization.
Sophia, watching from the side, was so shocked by the drama that she covered her mouth. She could never have imagined that Xyliana, whom she had grown up with, wasn’t actually part of the Yoder family.
Sophia thought, ‘Could those gifts not have been meant for Xyliana, but for that girl?‘
Although Xyliana was shocked, she quickly pulled herself together. Even if she didn’t want to accept it, she was keenly aware of the truth. Her mind raced; now she wanted to know if she wasn’t part of the Yoder family, who she was then.
After thinking for a moment, Xyliana looked up at Roxanne and asked, “If I was swapped with her, then I’m supposed to be part of the Moreno family, right? Why did you just say I still have to find my real parents?”
Finding out she was switched with Rosalie was already shocking, but it seemed things were more complicated than Xyliana thought, and her brain was truly overwhelmed.
Xyliana thought, ‘Even though I am not from the Yoder family, if I am from the Moreno family, that means I has found her biological parents and isn’t a poor soul without a home. Unless, the Morenos aren’t my parents after all?‘
Zachary knew it was difficult for Xyliana to accept, but he had to tell her the painful truth. “No, the Moreno family’s daughter has been found too.”
He was actually most worried about Xyliana asking him about this, especially since there was still no news about her real parents. Both kids had found their birth families, except Xyliana. She’d suddenly become an orphan overnight. This outcome would surely break her heart even more.
Sure enough, Xyliana’s face turned as pale as a sheet, like a deflated balloon. It made sense why Rosalie went back to the Yoder family while the Moreno family didn’t come for her.
At this moment, Xyliana’s heart ached, causing her to bite her lower lip to barely hold back the pain within, though her eyes still reddened uncontrollably.
Zachary looked at Xyliana, trying hard to hold back her tears, but her eyes stayed red. He sighed and comforted her, “Xyliana, even if you can’t find your real parents, don’t worry. As long as no one comes to claim you, this will always be your home, just like before. Nothing will change, we’re still a family.”
Zachary spoke with heartfelt emotion, unaware that Xyliana’s heart had already turned icy cold. Other than the part about the Moreno family’s daughter being found, she didn’t hear a single word Zachary said afterward.
All she knew was that she wasn’t part of the Yoder family, nor was she part of the Moreno family. She felt so unlucky.
Before coming back, she was still the carefree little princess of the Yoder family, but now everything had changed. She had become a wild child who didn’t know where her parents were.
Thinking about it, tears started falling from Xyliana’s eyes like a string of broken pearls.
Seeing Xyliana’s silent tears, Roxanne felt as if her heart was being pierced. She quickly sat down beside her and gently wiped her tears away. “Xyliana, Mom and Dad still love you. This is still your home, just like before. Nothing has changed. Don’t feel sad or overthink things, okay?”
Afraid that Xyliana was too upset, Roxanne warmly pulled her into her arms to comfort her.
Rosalie watched from the side, feeling a mix of complicated emotions. She thought she was finally back in her own home, but watching Roxanne care so much for Xyliana made her feel like the outsider.
Zaki noticed Rosalie’s mood and handed her a glass of water, trying to offer some comfort.

Rosalie glanced at Zaki; his deep gaze seemed to understand how she felt. She didn’t hide it, just nodded and accepted his kind gesture. Even though Zaki didn’t speak, his actions were comforting.
Zachary watched Roxanne and Xyliana embrace while Rosalie seemed a bit uneasy, unsure of what to say, and sighed helplessly at how this welcome party had turned out.
It was supposed to be a celebration for Rosalie’s return home, but with Xyliana coming back earlier and dropping these bombs in person, it certainly
made Rosalie uncomfortable.
Zaki noticed his parents were focused on Xyliana and said to Zachary, “Mom, Dad, even though it’s hard for Xyliana to accept, this is the reality. It’s Rosalie’s first day back, let’s try to be happy for her.”
Zachary also noticed Rosalie’s discomfort and nodded at Zaki. “You’re right. Rosalie just got back and isn’t used to the atmosphere here yet. Everyone,
let’s not be too tense.”
Zachary’s words immediately reminded Xyliana. Even though it was hard for her to accept, from now on, this home would no longer revolve around her emotions but rather Rosalie, the true daughter of the family.
