Chapter 13

Sophia was seething inside but couldn’t afford to have a confrontation. She instead adopted a sarcastic tone. “I guess I was being overly sentimental. If you want to return it, go ahead. I don’t care for something unwanted by others anyway.”
Since Rosalie intended to return the bag and wouldn’t give it to her, Sophia saw no reason to stay and embarrass herself further. Thinking this, she said, “The maid just informed us that breakfast is ready. I’ll go call Xyliana–you head downstairs yourself, Rosalie.”
Getting nothing from Rosalie, Sophia shot her an angry glare, then turned and walked away.
Rosalie gave Sophia a mocking glance as she walked out the door and scoffed, “Does she really think she can push me around that easily? Just because she asks doesn’t mean I’ll give it to her. How clueless.”
Outside, Sophia was fuming in the hallway. “She is just too much. I only asked for a bag. She has plenty and wouldn’t spare even one for me. What a small–minded, stingy person, not at all like Xyliana!”
Sophia thought, ‘Gosh! If she really gains favor, and Xyliana lost her standing, then I wouldn’t benefit at all in this household. Although Xyliana has a bit of an heiress attitude, she always saves something nice for me.
‘But Rosalie certainly are not as easy to please as Xyliana. No way. I won’t let her stay in this house for long.‘
Just then, a voice came from behind Sophia. “Sophia, what are you mumbling about over there?”
Startled by Xyliana’s voice, Sophia quickly turned around, looking guilty, and said, “Xyliana, you’re up! The servants called us downstairs for breakfast, and I was worried Rosalie wouldn’t get the message, so I came to let her know.”
Seeing Sophia chatting with Rosalie so casually early in the morning made Xyliana’s expression turn cold. Last night, Xyliana had poured her heart out to Sophia, hoping she’d understand her. But to her surprise, Sophia seemed just as interested in Rosalie.
Sophia noticed Xyliana’s disappointment; an idea sparked in Sophia’s mind as she walked over to her and complained about Rosalie, “Xyliana, that Rosalie is so rude! I just went to talk to her, and instead of appreciating it, she acted all arrogant and spoke to me so disrespectfully.
“Just like someone from a small town, with no manners at all.”
Xyliana furrowed her brows at Sophia’s words. “Really?” Although she only saw Rosalie briefly at the dining room last night, Rosalie didn’t seem like someone who lacked manners.
Seeing Xyliana’s disbelief, Sophia continued, “Yeah, when I went in earlier, Rosalie was busy with the gifts Roxanne gave her, looking like she’d never seen anything so nice before. She was really into them. Probably worried I’d ask for something, so she barely spoke to me before shooing me away.”
Sophia deliberately twisted the truth in front of Xyliana, not mentioning her request for a handbag. Since Rosalie refused to give her anything and even embarrassed her, Sophia couldn’t let Rosalie enjoy what she couldn’t have herself.
Listening to Sophia’s words, Xyliana frowned slightly, seemingly convinced by her explanation. She could only sigh and say, “You did mention she’s from a small place. Seeing so many luxury items for the first time, it’s only normal to be a bit protective.”
“However, when I saw her yesterday, she seemed pretty polite. Could she really have kicked you out over something like this?” Xyliana looked at Sophia
in disbelief.
Sophia’s eyes drifted for a moment as she intentionally replied, “I don’t think that’s it. Maybe it’s because she saw how close we are.”
A heavy feeling settled in Xyliana’s heart. She thought, ‘Could Rosalie have targeted Sophia because of me? After all, I have occupied Rosalie’s status as the heiress of the Yoder family for so long. Perhaps now, I am the one Rosalie dislikes the most.’
Thinking of this, Xyliana felt a sense of guilt. It wasn’t Sophia’s fault, and she shouldn’t be blamed. Seeing Rosalie being so unreasonable and involving others, Xyliana felt little affection for this new sister. “She has the right to dislike me, but she shouldn’t treat you like this.”
After all, Sophia was their relative, and Roxanne and Zachary were very fond of her.

Seeing xyliana’s silence, Sophia seriously reminded her, “Anyway, you better watch not for her. Who knows what that girl might do
Sophia became more animated as she talked, making Rosalie out to be a complete villain.
Xytrans had never encountered someone like this before, so she was somewhat doubtful of Sophia’s words.
Ayisha Frowned, thinking. ‘But Sophia won’t deceive me. Maybe I really need to keep a closer eye on Rosalie these days. After all, she has just returned to this home and I can’t be sure if she truly cares for my parents
“Hey, keep this on the down low, especially from Mom and Dad, I’ll keep an eye on her,” Xyliana told Sophia, not wanting to stress out their folks. “And. lay off with the ‘wild girl thing, okay? It’s not cool if someone hears you.”
“Got it. Thanks, Miss Goody Two–shoes,” Sophia grumbled, not thrilled. She despised that even now, Xyliana had to act all high and mighty.
By the time they finished talking, they were already downstairs.
“You’re here, go grab some food,” Roxanne said, spotting them in the living room and shooing them to the table.
“Sure thing,” they chimed in.
But Xyliana noticed Roxanne was still hanging around and asked, “Mom, aren’t you eating?”
Roxanne shook her head. “Rosalie’s not down yet, I’m gonna go check on her. You guys start without me.” With that, she got up to head upstairs.
Seeing Roxanne rush up, Sophia whispered to Xyliana, “Humph, even for breakfast, Roxanne has to fetch her. You’ve been in this family forever and never
bothered Roxanne like that. Rosalie thinks she’s all that!”
