Chapter 113 – Supernatural–1
–LIA’S POV–
The morning air felt refreshing.

I woke up beside my handsome mate just like every other day, but today it was at his house. In spite of everything that had happened the previous day, I couldn’t help but smile. The night we had spent together was pretty romantic. My heart still skipped a beat when I thought about it.
“Zane,” I said softly, gently running my hand down his cheek.
He immediately stirred, instinctively leaning into my touch, eyes still closed. “Hmm?”
“Wake up,” I said quietly. “We have school, my love.”
Zane rolled on his side, then opened his eyes only slightly. “Hi,” he grinned. “You’re pretty.”
I laughed, heat rising to my cheeks. “I’m sure I look like a homeless druggie right now.”
Zane scowled, reaching out and grabbing my chin, pulling me closer to himself. “Don’t you dare.”
“Don’t I dare what?”

“Say that about the love of my life.”

I grinned, snorting. “Idiot. Wake up. We’re late for school.”
Zane groaned, letting go of my face with a deep frown. He rolled onto his back now, staring up at the ceiling.
“Do we have to go?” He pouted like a child.
“Yes, we do. It’s unfortunate, I know. But I’ve missed enough.”
He blinked a couple of times, his hesitation clear. Then finally, he huffed. “Okay. You get ready. I’ll do the same.”
Zane pulled into the school parking lot and cut the engine. I was still holding his hand, fingers curled loosely in his, not wanting to let go just yet.
“Ready to face the circus?” he asked, glancing sideways at me.
I smiled. “Not really. But I’ll pretend I am.”
“You don’t have to pretend,” he murmured, brushing his thumb over my knuckles. “I’ll be here all day. Watching you. Protecting you.”
“I know. You’ve been doing that for months now.”

Amusement glinted in his eye. “Even though I’m not too good at
it.”
I frowned, turning to him. “That’s not true. Why would you say
that?”
“I did let a piece of metal stab you in the foot yesterday. I should’ve been better at my job,” he said sheepishly.
“That’s not your fault, Zane. It’s only because of you that I’m still alive and breathing. Please don’t be so hard on yourself. You’re my fiercest protector.”
Zane smiled. “Okay, thanks. I just wanted to hear it.”
I chuckled, shaking my head at him. “You’re really something, aren’t you, Zane Adams?”
“Yes. I’m Lia Snow’s boyfriend.” He grinned.
I didn’t reply. Just squeezed his hand and smiled. “Come on now. Let’s go.”
We let go of each other’s hand and finally stepped out of the car.
School looked the same. Kids rushed through the entrance like they always did, earbuds in, heads down. Some looked seconds away from attempting suicide or falling asleep standing. Others looked cheerful, chattering and laughing in groups.

Zane and I stepped in, side by side, and quickly spotted the Hounds. Ajax, Warner, Aaron, and Sheila, all huddled together near the vending machines, their voices low, expressions grim.
They looked like they were discussing something important, something they didn’t want others to hear. Which meant it was definitely werewolf–related.
Zane’s gaze landed on them, and I felt his fingers twitch like he wanted to join them. I nodded at him before he could ask. “Go. I’ll catch up later.”
“What about you? You can come too.”
“I’ve to find Chris,” I replied, looking around. I spotted her near her locker, minding her own business. She was handling the truth better than I was, because at least she was here, unlike me who had hid inside my house for days. But I had to still meet her, make sure she was doing fine.
“You sure?” Zane asked.
“Positive,” I replied.
I made my way to her, while Zane disappeared from my side and moved towards the Hounds.
“Hey,” I said softly as I approached.
She looked up, startled. She relaxed a little when she saw me.

“Lia.”
“You okay?”
She let out a breath, nodding. I heard her heart thump in her
chest.
“Yes. I’m fine, considering. Just a little jumpy.”
I leaned against the locker beside hers, arms crossed. “Wanna talk about it?”
She pursed her lips, shrugging. “I don’t really know what to say, honestly.” She glanced at the Hounds after shutting her locker and shifting closer to me. “They look so normal right now. Like they could be anyone.”
I followed her gaze. Aaron had his hand on Sheila’s shoulder while she spoke, Warner standing behind her with his arms folded. Ajax was fidgeting with a soda can, his jaw tight. From this distance, it was impossible to tell they weren’t just regular teens. Not killers. Not monsters. Not werewolves.
