Chapter 130 – Competition–2
–LIA’S POV–
“Hello?”

I got pulled out of my thoughts. “Right, sorry. Uh, okay. You can come tomorrow. Does that work?”
“It does. I’ll call you before showing up.”
“Okay. Also… is there any way we can hide your scent from my bedroom after you leave? Zane sleeps here every night.”
“I’ll find a way, “Blake said curtly. “Bye, Lia.”
“Bye.”
I sighed, hanging up on him.
I hated that I was hiding it from Zane. I hated that I was going behind his back. But I’d tried talking to him. I’d begged him to search for answers, and he hadn’t. Or if he had, he was keeping it from me.
I couldn’t let him take complete charge of my life like that. I still had a say in it, even if I was his mate, no matter his intentions.
Nothing would go wrong. I’d be at home, with my phone in my hands and Zane on speed dial. If anything happened, I’d call

him immediately.

Besides, Blake had me unconscious for a whole hour, and he still didn’t do anything.
Maybe I wasn’t in as much danger as I thought.
Everything would be fi–
My thought was interrupted as Zane jumped in through the window. My heartbeat quickened, fingers tightening around my phone.
“Hey,” he said with a frown. “Everything alright? You look scared.” He sat down beside me, studying my face.
“Yes, yes. Everything is fine,” I replied, smiling. “I’m not scared.”
“Are you sure?” he asked, pushing my hair away from my face, letting his hand linger on my neck.
My heart skipped a beat now, butterflies erupting in my stomach.
“Y—Yes,” I replied.
He narrowed his eyes, then his lips curled into a smirk. “Oh. You’re not scared. Just flustered.”

I looked away from him as heat rose to my cheeks.

Zane chuckled, taking my chin and forcing me to meet his gaze. “What is it? Are you still thinking about that day?” He leaned in closer, until our lips were inches apart.
“Yes,” I said honestly, “I haven’t been able to stop thinking about it.”
“Mhm? Don’t worry, my love, it’ll happen soon enough. I want you more than you want me.”
I smiled. “You can’t know that for sure. For all you know, I’m something more romantic than a werewolf.”
“Not possible,” Zane said immediately.
“You don’t know that,” I shrugged, “you don’t even know what I
am.”
He lowered his gaze as soon as I said that.
My mouth parted. He knew. He was hiding it from me.
“Whatever you are, my love, you’re still in this world. And I know for sure that no one and nothing in this world can love anyone or anything as much as I love you.”
Even despite the doubts I had about him hiding things from me, his words still spread warmth in my heart.

I leaned in, and pressed my lips against his, breathing in his comforting scent.
Zane didn’t pull away until I did, and gave me a gentle smile.
“I love you, my little Lia,” he whispered, kissing my check.
“I love you too, Zane. More than anyone else.”
“We’ll get through everything, I promise. I know I haven’t been able to keep you happy.”
I frowned, shaking my head. “Don’t say that. You’ve made met the happiest girl, Zane.”
“You’re going through a lot and I haven’t been able to help. But I promise you it won’t happen again.”
“It wasn’t your fault,” I said softly. “You did everything you could, Zane.”
“I didn’t,” he sighed. “I should’ve found a way to not leave you
alone.”
“For even a second?” I raised my brows.
“Yeah,” he replied. “I should’ve gotten the tracker earlier. I messed up.”

I cupped his cheeks, shaking my head. “You did everything you could. Nothing that happened was your fault.”
“Blake got to you before I did, Lia. That’s a failure like no other.”
“It’s not a competition, Zane.”
“Are you sure?” He raised his brows. “Because it definitely feels like the Moon Goddess has pit us against each other.”
I released a slow breath, moving closer to him. “Yes, Zane, I’m sure it’s not a competition. You know why?”
He stared at me with his gentle blue eyes, his gaze flickering to my lips for a second. “Why?”
“Because you’re the love of my life and he’s someone I don’t even
like.”
A tiny, but gorgeous smile stretched across his lips. “Hm.”
I lightly slapped his cheek. “Idiot.”
He gaped, narrowing his eyes. “You’re gonna pay for that.” He grabbed both my wrists and pulled me into his lap, making me squeal. He pushed my hands behind my back, pressing me tightly against himself. I stared up at him with wide eyes, my stomach and heart doing flips.
“Zane,” I whispered.

Zane cocked up a brow. “Are you trying to get into trouble, love?”
“I’m just stating facts.”
Without warning, he attacked my neck with kisses, making me squeal and squirm against his hold. He was leaving quick, sloppy kisses all over, his light stubble tickling me in the process. I laughed, struggling to free myself.
“Say, ‘I’m sorry, Alpha,‘ ten times over,” he murmured against my neck.
I clenched my jaw, trying my best to resist, but he amplified the torture on my neck.
“Alright!” I screamed between laughs. “I’m sorry, Alpha!”
“Nine more,” he ordered, giving me only a second of relief before going right back to it.
“I’m sorry, Alpha. I’m—Zane!” I cried as he suddenly licked me.
Zane laughed, the sound spreading warmth inside me.

“I’m sorry, Alpha,” I began again. This time, I managed to say it eight times. “It’s done! Ten times!”
Zane finally pulled away from me and let go of my hands.
I immediately slapped his chest, scowling at him. “That was so
mean.‘
He narrowed his eyes. “You just slapped my chest. I discipline you, and you defy me immediately after,” he said in a low, dangerous tone.
My eyes widened, heart skipping a beat.
“Zane, no,” I whispered.
His expression softened, and he chuckled. “Relax,” he grinned, “just teasing you.” He ran his hands through my hair and kissed my forehead.
I melted into his arms, closing my eyes.
There was nothing to worry about today. Whatever would
happen would come tomorrow.
