Chapter 45 – Dark Urges–1
–LIA’S POV–
Zane took my hand and helped me get to my feet.
“Can you walk?” he asked. “Want me to carry you?”
“No, no. I’m fine,” I assured him.
“Okay. Careful.”

He led me outside the room, placing his free hand on my waist. I found myself gazing at him, observing the look of concern on his face as he watched my steps, making sure I wouldn’t trip over something, making sure I was walking steadily. We walked through the corridor towards the staircase, when a gorgeous young woman was ascending it.
“Luna,” she whispered when she saw me, and immediately sank to her knees.
I froze.
“Emerald, please stand,” Zane said.
She obliged, beaming at me.
“Lia, this is Emerald, the girl who saved your life. She is our pack’s doctor.”

I smiled back at her. “Thank you, Emerald.”
Lucky Draw
“You don’t need to thank me, Luna. What I did was my duty.”
I didn’t know what to say.
“Alpha,” she said, “forgive me, but she should be resting.”
Zane smiled sarcastically. “I’m aware, Emerald. Explain that to her.”
She frowned at me.
“I need to go home,” I said.
“Home?” Emerald frowned. “Is that safe?”
“Yes, I’m going with her.”
“Oh,” she relaxed, “then there’s nothing to worry about. Alpha will not let any harm come to you.”
Warmth spread in my chest.
“Let’s go, now,” Zane said. “Come here.”
He lifted me into his arms, making me gasp. “I said I can wa–

yourself.”
“I’m not hurt on my leg, Zane,” I said, but he was already climbing down the staircase.
“No shit, Lia.”
I sighed in defeat.
Lucky Draw
We reached the ground floor, and he still refused to put me down. Zane carried me all the way to his car, before asking my preference for where I would be more comfortable.
“The passenger seat works.”
He opened the door and carefully placed me inside before also buckling my seat belt for me. Our gazes met momentarily as he did, before he withdrew and closed the door. He climbed into the driving seat and started the car, placing his hand on the back of my head rest and reversing out of the driveway.
I sucked in a quiet breath, my heart giving a thump in my chest.
“Did I do something?” Zane asked, turning the wheel with the base of his palm.
“No,” I forced out, my cheeks flaming.
“Okay,” he smirked.

I looked out the window, trying to hide my face from him.
Goddess. How did he always know?
I frowned as the thought crossed my mind.
Lucky Draw
I had called on the Goddess again, instead of God. What was happening to me?
“Human girls are weird.”
He broke me out of my chain of thoughts.
“What?”
“You girls find the weirdest things hot.”
Heat rose to my cheeks again. “Like what?” I said nonchalantly.
“Like driving,” he smirked, glancing at me.
I scoffed. “There’s nothing hot about that. I don’t find driving hot,” I lied.
“You know I can hear your heart beat and you still try to lie. That’s weird too. And slightly dumb, but cute nonetheless.”
“You’re the one who’s dumb,” I shot back.
“And cute?”

“That’s just me.”
Lucky Draw
“You do remember that you kissed me, right? I don’t get why you’re still trying to pretend that you don’t like me.”
“Because you start getting too cocky when I don’t,” I said honestly.
“You really dislike that so much?” He glanced at me again, raising his eyebrows.
“Yes. It reminds me of the old Zane. The one who wouldn’t even look at me,” I said honestly.
His face fell slightly. “I’m sorry, Lia. I had no idea it made you feel that way. I thought you know that I’m crazy about you.”
My heart skipped a beat in my chest.
“But I see you still like to hear it,” he added, probably hearing the spike in my heart rate.
I bit my lip. “Every girl does, Zane. I’m sure werewolf women as well.”
“Of course,” he said, nodding. “Not just women, love. Everyone likes to be told they’re loved with sincerity.”
“I guess you’re right,” I admitted.

“Why did you finally kiss me, Lia?” he asked after a short
“What do you mean?”
Lucky Draw
pause.
“You were doing everything in your power to avoid me. You didn’t want anything to do with werewolves. Then what made you finally give in to your desire?”
I wondered if I should tell him the truth. If I should tell him that
I wanted to see his reaction, and whether or not I could hear the change in his heart rate. But for some reason, I felt like this wasn’t the right time. I didn’t want to say something and sound crazy. So I told him the other truth.
