–LIA’S POV–

“And you’re so cute when you’re flustered that I just can’t help myself.” He smiled. “Has no one ever told you how beautiful you are?” He hooked the index finger of his free hand into the frame. of my glasses and gently pulled them off. I blinked, staring at him. “You know you just made yourself blur to me.”
He chuckled. “You know, if you turned into a werewolf, your eyesight would become perfect.”
I frowned. “You know, I thought my vision was too clear without lenses last night, which is why I didn’t notice their absence in the first place, but then I thought I was tripping or something. Wast that because of your blood?”
“Yeah, probably.” He shrugged.
“So no werewolf wears glasses?” I asked.
“Nope.”
“But Sheila does sometimes,” I said. “I’ve seen her.”
Zane chuckled. “That’s just cause she likes them. She says it adds ‘character‘,” he said, air–quoting the word.
“Wow,” I said, “she thinks being slightly blind is a character

“You can’t blame her, people are designed to want what they can’t have.”
“Disabilities? Really?”
“Having a weak eyesight is not a disability, Lia,” he said incredulously. “What’s wrong with you?” he whispered.
I laughed. “Good answer. I was just making sure you know.”
“I’m a werewolf,” he said, “not stupid.”
“It’s not my fault, alright? It’s normal to not know about things that don’t affect you.”
He leaned in closer, staring at me. “Lia, even if I hadn’t known in the past, the second I found out you were my mate, I would’ve researched everything I could find out about your… vision. You’re my mate, and everything that affects you, affects me. Alright? So don’t ever think that way.”
Warmth seeped into my chest. “How do you do this?” I asked.
“Do what?”
“Say the cutest, most romantic things ever?”
“I don’t know. I just say what I think. If that’s the cutest, most

romantic thing ever to you, then you may or may not find me the cutest and most romantic.”
I smiled, amused. “I see what you did there.”
Zane smirked. “Even without your glasses?”
I laughed. “Yes, even without my glasses.”
“Can you see this, though?” he asked, pointing towards the mirror.
I glanced it, to find our reflection staring back at me.
“Mhm.”
“What do you see?”
“You and me?” I asked.
“Nah. It’s the hottest couple that could ever exist.”
I smiled. “And once again, you’re trying to establish that we’re a couple when you haven’t even bothered to ask me out.”
“I have to?” He frowned. “I thought it was enough that I saved your life and gave you my literal blood, and then allowed you to kiss me and slept in your bed. But maybe that’s just me.”
I laughed again, out loud. God, why was I laughing so much?

“Yes, Zane, it is just you.”

He rolled his eyes. “Fine, ma’am. I’ll ask you the proper way soon.”
“Okay.” I grinned.
“The school dance is coming up,” he said.
“It is,” I nodded.
“You don’t happen to have a date yet, do you?” he asked.
“And if I do?” I raised my brows.
He clicked his tongue. “Sucks for him. Poor guy will either be stood up, or locked in a dungeon for the night.”
“You have a dungeon?” I whispered.
“I didn’t tell you? Yeah. Under the pack house. It’s filled with the human boys who try to hit on our pack members‘ mates.”
My eyes widened slightly. “I think you’re joking.”
“I am,” he chuckled.
I relaxed. “Phew.”
“I’m glad you didn’t take what I said at face value.”

“I never do,” I replied. “I’m smart.”

Zane narrowed his eyes playfully. “You should, in most cases. I am quite honest to you.”
“And you should be. What’s the point in having a soul mate when you cannot even be honest with them?”
Zane smiled. “You’re right.”
“Why are you grinning like that?” I laughed.
“Because you just called yourself my soul mate. It’s nice when you talk about us like that. The word just sounds different from your lips.”
“Why is that?”
“Because you weren’t willing to accept our connection previously.”
“I still haven’t accepted it a hundred percent, alright?”
“You wish,” he chuckled. “You’re just trying to play hard to get now. I could make you fold in a second, Lia Snow. And you know that.”
Heat rose to my cheeks. “Whatever.”

I laughed. “Shut up. Idiot.”

Zane grinned. “Goddess,” he whispered. “I never thought it would be like this.”
“Like what?” I asked.
“This. I am really crazy about you. I didn’t think it would feel like this.”
“Having a mate?”
“Yeah.”
“But I thought you always knew that you had a soul mate out there.”
“No, I did. Theoretically, I knew everything. But nothing could’ve prepared me for what it actually feels like. It’s like, nothing matters anymore, except you. It’s exhilarating.”
For some reason, Blake crossed my mind. “Does Blake feel the same way?”
