Chapter 12
Victoria quickly grabbed Marcus’s arm, shaking her head. “That’s not cool. Blake never asked me to wait for him. Besides, he’s technically still Amber’s husband. If I were pining after him, how would that make me any different from a homewrecker?”
The others rushed to defend her. “Vicky, you’re just too damn principled. Even if you and Blake are completely innocent, you think Amber would believe that? Last time she showed her face in public, she tried to slap you. I was furious just watching it.”
“Okay, okay, enough about that.”
Victoria turned toward Blake, noticing something off about him. “Are you feeling alright? Maybe you should head home.”
Blake kept his eyes closed, his lashes fluttering slightly. “I’m fine. Just thinking.”
His eyelashes remained lowered, his thoughts hidden, until the door to the lounge swung open and in walked Julian Westwood.
At least on the surface, Julian and Blake maintained a decent brotherly relationship.
Surprise flashed across Julian’s face as he glanced at the room number. He smiled apologetically. “Sorry, wrong room.”
Everyone recognized him, but this group was closer to Blake, so they maintained polite formality.
“Julian! Back from your business trip?”
“Yeah. Don’t let me interrupt-I’m meeting clients next door.”
Everyone knew Julian worked incredibly hard. He was gentle and kind to everyone-sophisticated, handsome, and universally liked.
Several people who were relatively close to Julian immediately spotted a lipstick mark on his collar.
“Julian, do you have a girlfriend? I can see lipstick on your collar.”
All eyes instantly turned toward him, faces lit with gossip-hungry curiosity.
“You’re only two years older than Blake, and he’s been married for three years. You haven’t given us a single update on your love life-Mrs. Westwood must be getting impatient for more grandchildren.”
Julian stood there smiling. “I’m not in a rush. She can’t exactly make public appearances right now, but when the time is right, I’ll introduce her to everyone.”
The others immediately erupted with questions, all wanting to know who this woman was who had finally captured his heart.
Julian glanced at his watch and made an excuse to leave.
Throughout the entire exchange, Blake hadn’t said a word.
Someone continued the speculation, “Julian’s always had incredibly high standards. I don’t think I’ve ever heard of him being interested in anyone all these years.”
“Didn’t he rescue some girl years ago? When he was drunk once, he called her his ‘first love.””
“But nobody knows who that girl was. I bet Julian’s just waiting for her, probably worried she’s married someone else.”
“HAHA! Knowing Julian’s personality, even if she were married, he’d patiently wait for her to get divorced. Once he sets his heart on someone, he never let go.”
The moment those words left their mouth, Blake’s glass shattered in his grip,
Blood dripped from his palm onto the table. Victoria jumped, her body trembling slightly as she quickly grabbed napkins.
“Oh my GOD! How did you manage that?!”
Chapter 12
Blake ignored the napkins, instead lowering his head to pick out glass fragments from his palm. The bleeding intensified, looking painful as hell, quickly pooling on the floor.
Everyone started panicking while Blake stood up with eerie calmness.
“I’m leaving
“Blake, you need to get that treated ASAP. If it gets infected, you’re screwed.”
“Let me drive you to the ER. You can’t risk infection.”
The last offer came from Victoria, who was already grabbing her coat.
Yet Blake strode toward the door. “Don’t bother. Devon’s waiting for me outside.”
