Chapter 18
Amber forced back her tears, determined not to cry over Blake again. She managed a smile and gently pushed julian away.
“Thanks, Julian. I see.”
She turned and walked into the gated community, her mind foggy with emotion.
Before she could even reach for the light switch, her scalp prickled with fear. Because someone was sitting in her darkened living room.
In the faint glow filtering through the floor-to-ceiling windows, she couldn’t make out who it was.
Terrified, she stepped back, instinctively preparing to bolt. But the man moved with lightning speed, yanking her back inside and pinning her against the door.
The moment she caught his familiar scent, her eyes burned with tears. She slammed her fist against his shoulder.
‘Blake, what the ACTUAL FUCK is wrong with you?!”
What karma was she paying off to be stuck with this man?
Blake dragged her inside, slammed the living room door shut, and pressed her against it.
le didn’t say a word-just radiated apocalyptic fury.
Amber struggled frantically. “Get OFF me! LET GO!”
Ier pants were suddenly being tugged down. She froze, then trembled, afraid to move.
lake raised his hand to her cheek, his fingers coming away wet with tears.
le lowered his eyelashes and slowly pulled her pants back up.
When Amber regained her senses, she spun around and slapped him hard across the face.
he room remained dark, but their eyes had adjusted enough to see each other’s expressions in the dim light.
lake’s gaze was dangerously dark, like a gathering storm.
espite being the one who’d delivered the slap, Amber felt a crushing pain in her chest that left her struggling to breathe.
I wasn’t concern for him-it was the raw injustice of her situation.
he pressed her lips together, said nothing, didn’t bother with the lights, and headed for the stairs.
hen she heard him say: “In such a rush, aren’t you?”
mber stopped mid-step and turned. “What?”
lake let out a soft, mocking laugh. “Still playing innocent? Amber, you know damn well what you did.”
he found it almost laughable. The anger surged from her toes straight to the top of her head-a meltdown so obvious anyone could see it.
very argument with Blake transformed her into the shrewish woman she despised becoming.
t hadn’t happened for a year, but anything involving him destroyed her composure.
fow humiliating.
the fought to push down the impulse, her eyes burning red as she looked at him. “Marrying you was the worst decision of my life, Blake. At Victoria’s ngagement party, I WASNT the one who drugged you, but none of you believed me. Even you stayed silent. I shouldn’t have let that tiny spark of hope in my
heart convince me to ruin my reputation by marrying you. It’s the biggest regret of my life.”
Blake stood motionless, lighting a cigarette before scoffing, “Ruined your reputation… for me?”
Amber felt ice spreading through her veins, a chill permeating her entire body.
Somewhere along the way, everything she did had become suspicious in Blake’s eyes. She’d transformed into the villain of his story.
But she’d been by his side since she was twelve, following him everywhere. Didn’t he know her character Better than anyone?
The whole world could doubt her, but Blake should have been the exception.
Her face drained of color, but she didn’t shed a single tear. All her anger suddenly deflated, leaving nothing but exhaustion.
She asked quietly, “Tomorrow’s Monday. Are you free?”
