Chapter 21

The wealthy socialite hadn’t met Amber before, but hearing Renée call her name, her expression instantly transformed.

“So THIS is your daughter-in-law, Amber Chase?”

Renée’s face darkened, clearly regretting her outburst but forced to acknowledge it now.

She glared furiously at Amber, then glanced toward Zach standing nearby. “Why are you following around some man?”

Amber lowered her lashes, her demeanor neither submissive nor confrontational. “I’m job hunting.”

Renée let out a bitter laugh before slapping Amber hard across the face. “Jobhunting or man hunting? Amber, you just can’t help yourself, can you?”

Ever since that disaster at the engagement party, everyone believed Amber was some kind of man-eater who couldn’t keep her hands to herself. Why else woul she have drugged her soon-to-be brother-in-law? Utterly shameless.

The socialite hadn’t expected Renée to get physical, but thinking about it, she’d probably react the same way if her daughter-in-law was such an embarrassment.

Renée’s chest trembled with rage as she took a deep breath. “I don’t care how much your grandmother spoils you. This marriage is OVER! I’m calling Blake right

now!”

Blood trickled from the corner of Amber’s mouth as she stood motionless, watching Renée dial Blake’s number.

Zach observed from a distance, frowning slightly. He wasn’t sure what was really going on between Blake and Amber. But he recognized Renée as Blake’s

mother.

Renée’s disgust for her daughter-in-law was painfully obvious. She’d also immediately recognized Zach-wasn’t he that former Westwood executive? The one who nearly forced himself on Amber, resulting in Blake having him fired? That incident had caused quite the scandal in the Westwood family, especially since Zach had been working with Julian at the time, right after completing a major project. Blake targeting Zach at that crucial moment had nearly caused a rift between the brothers.

Fortunately, Julian adored his younger brother, unlike other wealthy families where siblings would fight tooth and nail over positions of power.

Otherwise, Amber would have caused an even bigger disaster.

After everything Blake had done, here was Amber, gallivanting around with Zach. Renée was absolutely livid.

When Blake answered the call, he was sitting in his office, his tone neutral. “Why are you even in that area? If seeing her upsets you, just avoid her in the future. It’s not like she seeks you out anyway.”

Renée could barely breathe. “Divorce her immediately! Didn’t you promise me you’d have a child with Victoria?”

Blake didn’t contradict her. He lowered his eyes, darkness clouding his expression. “We’ll discuss this later.”

Assuming he was considering it, Renée felt relieved. “Blake, darling, she clearly can’t stay away from men-a leopard doesn’t change its spots! Now she’s openly lirting with Zach. It’s HUMILIATING! I won’t let someone like her hold the position of my daughter-in-law.”

‘Mom, I have several meetings today.”

Knowing he was busy, Renée didn’t want to disrupt his work and ended the call.

But when she looked up, she saw that Amber had disappeared without a word.

This infuriated her again. The socialite, seeing Renée’s mood deteriorate, rushed to console her.

“You mentioned Victoria Reed, right? She just returned from abroad. That girl is absolutely remarkable-wrote several songs overseas and won the most prestigious music award. Everyone’s calling her a musical genius. And she’s so young! Incredibly talented.”

Renée had heard about this. International media had interviewed Victoria-those five songs were each stunning and performed by global superstars. Upon release, they dominated every major music chart.

Victoria’s compositions were now in such high demand that since returning to New York, she’d received invitations from numerous industry heavyweights

Several Broadway productions had also approached her, but she’d declined them all.

Who wouldn’t adore such a talented yet humble girl?

Whenever Renée thought about it, she felt utterly frustrated!

Why couldn’t Victoria be her daughter in law instead?
