Chapter 30

Blake sat beside the bed, gently wiping away her tears, wondering why she was crying.

“What are you dreaming about?”

He asked softly, knowing she couldn’t answer right now.

Only in moments like this were they not at each other’s throats.

He went to shower and returned to find her curled up on her side rather than lying flat-a protective posture.

Blake climbed into bed and pulled her into his arms.

Amber used to love sleeping nestled against him. Sometimes she’d wake in the middle of the night and search for him if he wasn’t there.

But he had been so busy then, often taking calls all night. Not wanting to disturb her, he would pace around the apartment complex or stand on the balcony.

Each time she found him, she wouldn’t say anything, just silently accompany him on his walk.

But she seemed uncomfortable in his embrace now, even recoiling when he tried to turn her toward him.

Irritated, Blake switched on the bedside lamp. “Are you pretending to sleep?”

But she was genuinely asleep, her cheeks flushed from fever, long lashes lowered, looking extraordinarily docile.

He froze, his heart instantly softening. Silently turning off the light, he spooned her from behind and drifted off.

When Amber woke, she felt discomfort below.

Moving slightly, she felt the cooling sensation of the ointment.

She turned and realized someone was beside her.

With a sudden start, she discovered this wasn’t a dream-Blake really was in the bed.

For three years, countless times she had drowsily reached out upon waking, only to find emptiness beside her.

Initially, she had been devastated, but gradually learned to heal herself.

Now she was accustomed to sleeping alone.

checking her phone, she saw it was five-thirty in the morning. She got out of bed and began dressing.

seeing her rise so early, Blake pulled her back. “Sleep a little longer.”

His tone was so familiar, as if their three years of fighting had never existed, as if the rift caused by Victoria didn’t exist.

She removed his hand and took out her clothes to change.

Blake was fully awake now. Watching her wash up in the bathroom, he saw her dabbing the corners of her mouth with a cleansing towel after rinsing.

She didn’t look at him, just took her phone and prepared to leave.

Blake’s hand blocked her path. “Amber, can we talk?”

Amber looked at him, her expression perfectly calm. “Nothing to discuss except divorce. Let me know when you’re ready to sign.”

Blake’s expression visibly changed, followed by a cold laugh. “Do you remember promising to be Mrs. Westwood for life?”

Chapter 30

She pressed her lips together. She had indeed made that vow, saying she’d hold onto that position even in death.

Yet just three years later, all her determination had vanished.

Depression had been cured-what couldn’t be healed? Loving Blake was like a prolonged illness, one she would soon recover from.

She tried to step around him to leave.

#lake pulled her back, pressing her against the door, forcefully lifting her so her legs had to wrap around is waist.

Let me go!”

hese days, this phrase was her most common utterance.
