For a moment, Dario was stunned, his heart skipping a beat.
He followed the guest’s pointing finger toward the center of the room.
“Ms. Paxton, do you take Mr. Tavin to be your lawfully wedded husband?”
I extended my hand, watching as Alden slid the ring onto my finger, his voice warm and steady.
“I do.”
The sharp sound of shattering ceramic cut through the hall.
“She doesn’t!”
Dario’s furious voice boomed across the room.
His face was stormy as he strode toward me, grabbing my hand. “Edith, what are you doing?”
Ignoring the darkening expressions of both our parents, he tried to drag me away. “Come home with me!”
I yanked my hand free, rubbing my reddened wrist as my expression turned cold. “Dario, this is a union between two families. Are you really here to ruin my wedding?”
He stared at me in disbelief. “Why are you marrying into the Tavin family? Isn’t it supposed to be Sierra?”
Miley, eyes red and brimming with tears, rushed onto the stage, clutching her stomach. “Edith, you’ve gone too far! I know you hate me, but how could you do this to Dario?”
She looked at Dario with tearful sympathy, as if I’d committed some unforgivable crime.
“You claim to love Dario, but now you’re marrying someone else? Edith, I never thought you could be so shameless!”
I watched her melodrama with cool amusement, a smirk tugging at my lips. “You knew Dario and I loved each other, yet you still got pregnant with his child?
“If I’m shameless, then what does that make you? Slut? Or just a homewrecker?”
I’d put up with Miley for long enough–she didn’t deserve any more courtesy.
The guests, all people of status and influence, saw right through her act.
Their mocking gazes fell on Miley, making her face flush scarlet as she glared daggers at me. “How dare you insult me!”
She turned to Dario, sobbing, “Dario, you have to stand up for me!”

But, for once, he didn’t even look at her. He just stared at me, his eyes rimmed with red.
He reached out, his voice softening. “Edith, come here. Let’s go home. If you want to get married, we can do it right now.”
Miley’s face twisted in disbelief.
Dario didn’t spare her a glance.
His hands clenched, knuckles stark, his voice wounded. “Edith, I know I was wrong. Please, don’t be angry anymore.
My smile was icy. “Dario, whatever feelings we had ended the moment you ignored my car accident to be with your so–called sister.”
Dario’s pupils dilated in shock. He stared at me, then quickly turned to Miley.
Realization dawned on him. “You did it on purpose?”
Miley flinched under his gaze, her voice trembling. “Dario, I just felt insecure…”
Her words faded, her pitiful act unraveling.
But Dario didn’t comfort her like before.
He looked at me, eyes wet, and stepped forward as if to embrace me. “Edith, don’t blame me. I promise–I’ll send Mi- ley abroad. We’ll get married right away and start over.”
A tall figure stepped between us.
Alden shielded me, his arm firm around my waist, his tone frosty. “Mr. Orlan, please have some respect.”
He glanced down at me, eyes filled with an emotion too deep for me to read.
“Edith is my wife now, Mr. Orlan. If you keep pestering her, don’t blame me for being rude.”
Dario’s gaze locked on Alden’s hand at my waist, his eyes blazing red.
As far as I knew, the Tavin family was his main business partner. They had several ongoing deals.
But in that moment, Dario lost all sense, lunging at Alden in a frenzy.
Alden, caught off guard, took a punch.
Security rushed in and quickly restrained Dario.
Seeing the blood at the corner of Alden’s mouth, guilt stabbed at me. I shouted at Dario, “Are you insane?”
Dario’s eyes were desperate, pleading. “Edith, don’t marry him.
“I’m sorry. I’ll make it up to you.
“You still love me, don’t you?”

His eyes begged for forgiveness, but all I felt was disgust.
“Please escort Mr. Orlan and Ms. Harland out,” I instructed the security guards, my heart aching for Alden.

Under the calm command of Alden’s parents, Benjamin Tavin and Natalia Radley, order was quickly restored to the wedding.
No one mentioned the ugly scene.
Backstage, I apologized sincerely to Alden’s parents.
If it weren’t for me, Alden wouldn’t have been dragged into this mess, nor would the Tavin family’s reputation have been put at risk.
I was fully prepared to accept their anger and had already planned what concessions I could offer as compensation.
But Natalia simply held my hand, her eyes shining with tears. “Don’t apologize. None of this is your fault. My heart aches for you, sweetheart, for having your feelings trampled by such a scumbag.”
Her unexpected kindness made my eyes sting.
Natalia placed my hand in Alden’s. “Alden, you must take good care of Edith. Never let her be hurt again!”
Alden looked at me, his smile gentle. “I will. Though it seems this little rascal doesn’t remember me at all.”
