Chapter 167
Alcee wished she had a bag of popcorn for the show. It wasn’t that she didn’t like Kylen. He was her boss but the things he’d done to Cenevra over the last little while definitely lowered him on the list of people she respected.
“What is going on here?” Kylen asked curiously.
“We’re arranging my marriage,” Genera didn’t eve
glance at him.
Alcee considered this woman was channeling the same boss bitch energy she’d done the first night she met her and while back then she wasn’t a fan, in this moment, it was everything. She nearly clapped.
“Your marriage? Thought you were selling your virginity online.” Kylen casually walked towards Torg with the file with a snort.
“Bypassing the auction,” Genevra commented, “I’m being practical. What was it you said to me, Kylen, before you left today? I need to grow up and nobody likes a brat?”
“I like a brat,” Karolos commented dryly leaning his head sideways, “though I must ask about this leaving today thing. Were you in a relationship?”
“No. I was staying with my brother Bastiano but with some of the things going on, for my safety and security I was relocated to Kylen’s home. He has a spare bedroom he keeps there for his six–year–old niece. It’s got a pink canopy bed and everything. He thinks he’s too old for me and I think his way of making sure he doesn’t cross lines with a woman far too young for him is to belittle and berate me and relegate me to child status. I admit I felt a crush on him,” she waved at him, “I mean look at him, but nobody wants to be with someone who they know makes them uncomfortable.”
“She makes you uncomfortable, Kylen?” Alcee couldn’t help but taunt him.
Torq turned his head away, hiding his laugh with a cough.
“I am quite possibly older than Kylen,” Karolos spoke to Genevra. “Will this bother you?”
“Are you richer than him?”
“Definitely,” a smile tugged the corners of Karolos‘ mouth.
“Then no, it won’t bother me. You’re not hiding anything from me though? There’s not a mistress somewhere with a bunch of kids or a gay lover
somewhere?”
“No. In fact, I came to America because someone wanted to discuss an arranged marriage with their family’s princess, but it seems she’s already taken.”
“Sounds like it was fate!” Genevra exclaimed with a clap of her hands.
“To the Greeks, fate is important.” Karolos chuckled. He looked to his brother. “Have the lawyer send the contract over.” He wound his arm around Genevra’s waist, his hand possessively on her hip, “I will tell you; I am a jealous man. Once you sign on the dotted line, you do not ever, be alone with him ever again,” his eyes flicked warningly to Kylen.
“Torg, what the fuck?” Kylen hissed at him angrily.
Torq turned his head slowly to look at his CEO, “you want to ask your question again in a different tone with different words?”
Alcee pulled her head back, her eyes wide and her lips tucked between her teeth as Torq scathingly rebuked the way his underling addressed him in a room where reputation mattered. Torq drew himself to his full height and stared at Kylen coldly.
“Sorry,” Kylen gave a single shake of his head. “I apologize. I just don’t understand what is happening?”
“What is happening, Kylen,” Alcee spoke up, “is you refused to acknowledge the woman for everything she is and someone else will appreciate her. Before you get your panties bunched over it, I suggest you remember you have a date tonight with some supermodel and reminded Genevra not to wait up for you. She’s already packed up, moved out, and now,” she waved, “moved on.”
“You know nothing about him.” Kylen looked back to Genevra in disbelief.

“It’s the way with most families like outs, Kylen,” Genevra shrugged. “Here in America, everyone needs to fall in love first and pretends to be vie they all cheat on each other and lie about their intentions. I want money and security and to not live on my mother’s farm” She looked back at Karlles “you don’t have a farm do you?*
“I do have an orange grove,” he shrugged, “but it’s behind my fifteen–bedroom villa which sits on a cliff access to a beach. I like to swim cier de inse
the sea. I have a helicopter landing pad to take us into the city whenever you feel the need to buy pretty things.”
Genevra looked at Alcee wide–eyed, “I might give him three kids.”
Alcee needed to hand it to her. Genevra knew what she wanted and wasn’t shy about it. She respected her all the more for it.
“Do you hear yourself?” Kylen grunted out. “Genevra, seriously?”
“Who are you?” Genevra looked at him. “You’re not my family. You’re not my lover. You’re not my friend. You were literally my host for a handful of nights. We share no emotional connection. I know you found me attractive, but it made you feel guilty and uncomfortable because of our age difference. None of this gives you the right to weigh in here.”
Alcee shook her head at Kylen, “Kylen, unless the paperwork in your hands is relevant, perhaps it’s best if you take your leave.”
“I cannot let this happen,” Kylen stared at Genevra.
“Why? Because you weren’t man enough to admit you have feelings and now someone bold enough to see what is in front of him is point it out, you regret?*
“What’s going on?” Bastiano stepped into the office and then his eyes swung to his sister sitting on the lap of the man they’d originally been plotting to rescue Alcee from. “What is this?”
“A misunderstanding,” Torq looked to Alcee, “Bastiano was in the security room trying to figure out how and why our security team let Mercurio walk right into the lobby and was working on measures to fix it once we knew you were okay,” He motioned at the man who was gently setting Genevra to her feet and rising to look at Bastiano. “Karolos Pavlidis, this is the second of my two best friends. Bastiano Verrilli. The lady on your arm is his little sister.”
