Chapter 109

Everyone’s heads snapped back to the King when a growl rose from his chest and I looked to see his eyes golden and dangerously narrowed on Zade.

Darian got up, he snarled while his neck broke and his arms lengthened. The fur grew on his body and his ears had sharp points and stood straight.

The size to which he grew was terrifying, he was bigger than any werewolf I’d ever seen. His Lycan was gloriously threatening, dangerous, and powerful and he stood on two legs in the center of the room causing terror in some of the most fearless men in Valeria.

The knife was still lunged in his side but it looked like a toothpick in comparison to his size. It hit me now that I didn’t know his Lycan’s name, though he didn’t know Trixy’s either.

A yelp peeled from my lips when he lunged across the room and reached out his hand, swatting Zade away like a fly and his body hit the wall with dust falling on his back as he landed on the floor.

I was too busy watching Zade that I hadn’t noticed Darian watching me. He leaned down, drool fell on my feet from the side of his mouth and I watched the claws that looked like they could slice through a tree like it was paper.

“Darian,” I whispered with panic laced in my voice.

He growled and leaned down, his nose wrinkled and the muscle above his eyes pressed down.

“Oh my god,” I backed away and turned to run but he slammed on my back and my front was pressed against the wall with Darian close behind, breathing down my neck. The growling stopped suddenly and I turned my head to the side and saw him fall on a knee.

A sharp ringing echoed in my mind, it felt like a vacuum that pressed against my skull and I looked back to see if I was safe. My eyes locked with Darian’s and his voice sounded soft in my mind,

‘She’s alive’

He said through the mind link before he shifted back into human form and the guards dragged him by his arms to the center of the room.

I was in shock, watching them stab another knife into him and Zade walked up with his hand holding up his rolled sleeve and the tattoo on his arm started moving. I blinked several times to make sure that I wasn’t delirious but no, it was happening, the snake on his arm slithered on his skin at first and then the head lifted from the back of his hand and slithered down on the floor. It was easily over two meters tall and once it was off, the tattoo was gone, it had manifested into a real animal, a snake that slithered its long body across the floor, heading for Darian.

The tongue stuck out and it hissed until it reached him and then it raised its upper body and moved the head from side to side. They held Darian’s arms and the snake locked in on his neck and broadened its jaws.

It attacked, it dug its teeth into his throat and held it. His screams were agonizing, tortured in a way that would haunt my memories forever and I saw the blood dripping in a perfect line down his throat and around his neck.

“What are you going to do with him?” I asked.

Zade turned his head and walked over to me.

“For a second I forgot that you were here,” he chuckled darkly. He dragged his thumb across my cheek and cocked his head.

Before he could speak four men barged into the room and I was surprisingly grateful to see the Royal Guards. Everything was going badly, I don’t know what I expected but it wasn’t for the council to come.

I thought Zade worked alone. I thought he wanted to help me.

“I did help you,”

Shit, I keep forgetting about the mind reading.

“And you are free now,” he said.

Chapter 109

I looked at the Guards and felt the blood rush to my face. Why aren’t they doing anything? They’re watching their King get mauled by a snake and they’re not doing anything. I looked between the Royal Guards and Darian and saw that he was watching between them and me.

“The game is officially over,” one of the Councilmen called and Darian lifted his head and locked his eyes with mine in great distress.

“Hazel, run!” He shouted but the snake circled his neck and his mouth and locked its jaw in him again.

He said my name.

He said Hazel.

“What the hell is happening, Zade?”

He watched me, put a lock of my hair behind my ear, and then he turned to the Guards.

“Make sure she doesn’t follow,” he said and let his eyes fall on me again. I gulped and shivered when his fingers graced my shoulder and he pulled on the strap of my teddy, “and have fun. I know I will,” he said to them through a grin.

Three men from The Dark Guard were hauling Darian out of the room while the others followed behind. The only ones who stayed behind were Zade and one of the Councilmen.

This was all wrong. That’s not what I wanted. What have I done…and why aren’t the Royal Guards helping their King?

“Haven’t you figured it out by now?” Zade asked with condensation. I pressed my brows together and shook my head. It made me sick to feel his hand on my body but he grabbed my waist and leaned down until his lips touched against my ear and he whispered, “They are not with him. They are just wearing the wrong uniform,”

My body turned to a block of ice and Zade grabbed my face and forced my head back.

He pressed his lips against the corner of my mouth and smiled.

“Goodbye, angel,”

He left, but they didn’t. The Royal Guards stood almost excitedly in the room and one of them licked his lips as he sized me up and down.

One of the Councilmen stopped by the guard on the left and put his hand on his shoulder.

“She will not leave this room alive,” he ordered, uncaring of whether I heard.

“Of course, sir,” the guard’s lustful gaze was locked on mine when he made his promise.
