Chapter 181

I was sick of fighting and holding onto grudges. They got heavy and I had enough to carry so I decided to drop it and I leapt from the ground and circled my arms around this neck.

Gabe caught me and tightly wound his arms around my back while his face rested in the crock of my neck.

We stood like that for a while, embracing and relishing in a comfort that I missed even if it hadn’t been gone for that long.

Gabe was always there, ready to protect me or make a joke that would bring a smile to my face. He was the one who reminded me of what my laugh sounded like a sound I would occasionally forget amid the chaos that had become our lives.

I pulled back and patted his arm before I released him.

“I have to talk to find Darian. Will you be okay?”

Gabe nodded with a smile that brought life back to his eyes.

Those eyes should always have life in them, in turn, he would bring life to everyone else.

I was heading back to the palace when he called behind me.

“What did Zade whisper?”

I thought he’d heard.

For some reason, I considered the pros and cons of telling him but what the hell, we were in this together and he’d find out sooner or later from Darian

anyway.

“He said that Darian isn’t the key,” I said with furrowed brows. I boggled my mind, another damn riddle.

Of course Darian was the key, he was the King and Zade wanted the King gone.

My words put a damper on the joy that had spread across Gabe’s face but he forced it away and feigned a smile.

“Go, I’ll see you later,”

I smiled and jogged back to the castle.

Darian wasn’t in his study and I don’t think he’d be in the gym right now so I went to our room, hoping to find him there but at the same time worried

about which Darian I would be meeting.

The door stood open and Darian had his hands in his pockets, staring out of the window.

My heart started racing, an old habit that wouldn’t break and I closed the door behind me with careful movements and without making too much noise.

I stepped down into the lounge area and waited.

We had all fucked up at some point, him more than anyone else I would say but still it wasn’t fair what I had done.

“Are you ever going to turn around?” I asked softly.

I waited and forced each breath in and out while trying to slow down my heart rate.

Darian turned, his face remained sharp and his eyes focused on me when he walked towards me.

“You need to understand something,” he said and took out his hands. Each step was slow and weighed down on the floor.

There were many I needed to understand but color me intrigued to see what this particular thing was. The depth of his dark eyes swirling with a possessive

intensity when he watched me had me drowning in them.

The closer he got, the more intense he looked and the more desire grew on his face.

Darian cupped my face in his hands and leaned close.

“I can’t lose you. I won’t. No life on this earth compares in importance to yours. If need be I will annihilate every human, wolf, and creature to make sure that you stand, safe and alive,”

A soft breath left my lips and fanned his face.

“I don’t know why I said ‘no’ when he was killed,” my voice was hoarse, peeling from my lips as I flickered my eyes over his.

“Because unlike me, you’re good. You care about the lives of others, but for me you are it. I will burn this world to ash and make it snow with every soul I have taken,” the possessiveness of his rough touch and the sweet nectar of his pleads erupted a burst of affection within me. “There are no paths I won’t walk for you and there are no lives I won’t end. I am not good, Hazel, I do not care, all I care about is that your heart beats in alignment with mine,”

His grip around me hardened and his hand fell to my waist while he leaned in.

“You’re mine, Hazel. I can’t lose you,” his lips met mine in a soft kiss. “You have me, all of me is yours. You have my soul and my heart, and if there’s ever a question of survival, you have my life,”

Our lips met, they parted as a burning heat swept through us, through the mark, and entwined us in a web of desire, lust, love, and darkness. Our tongues danced in sync and every caress, every touch, and every grab with rough and desperate.

A warming light filled me from the tip of my toes to the top of my head, it engulfed me and I drowned in everything that he was. In his touch, his words, and his soul.

I fell against him when my legs buckled underneath me and my hands roamed through his hair and one hand down his chest as I fisted his shirt.

I drowned in him, in all of him and I could finally breathe in the chaos that set its roots and extended its branches.

It wasn’t hell, it wasn’t unfathomable pain and grief- it was home and a surge of electric pulses shot out through every nerve and aligned with his.
