Chapter 196
HAZEL’S POV
Nora was sitting on the chair beside the bed reading a magazine and Lauren stood in position by the door. Though I don’t think it’s to keep any threats from entering, it’s to keep me from leaving. I was lying in the hospital bed, staring at the ceiling and wondering what the hell was wrong with me. Werewolves didn’t get sick like humans, it took a lot more than a common cold to kill us off, so it’s not that. My body had just been turning on me lately for no known reason. The door opened and the doctor came in with my charts in his hands.
Thank god, maybe it’s something I ate.
He looked me over and then stopped to look at Lauren and Nora.
“Maybe we should do this in private?” He asked and pointed to the girls.
“Yes, please,” I smiled, hoping they would leave but Nora put aside the magazine and folded one leg over the other. With a smile and cupped hands, she looked at the doctor. Lauren didn’t show much on her face but she spoke with conviction.
“I’m under the king’s orders not to leave Hazel alone. trust me, there are other places I’d rather be,”
Rude.
“Okay then,” his eyes landed back on me and a smile stretched across his face.
“Congratulations, Hazel. You’re pregnant,”
Blank.
The words were lost in a vacuum.
“Hazel?”
“Panic,” the word fell out before I could stop it and the word kept repeating over again like a broken record.
“Hazel!”
“Yes?” I said under my breath.
“There is more,” the doctor said and I swear the floor opened up underneath me.
I’m pregnant, with Darian’s child, the heir to the throne- the next leader of Valeria while the current leader is out protecting his people because the werewolves want him dead.
How the hell am I pregnant?
“I can’t be pregnant,” I said, shaking my head.
Nora grabbed my hand and clutched it tight.
“This is good news,”
“I can’t be pregnant,” I murmured and looked dully at the doctor.
“Have you had sexual intercourse?” I scoffed at his question.
“Yes?”
“Then you can be and you are. However-”

“No, no, no, no…”
Nora grabbed my shoulders and gave me a good shake but the feeling of dread was still there and I couldn’t help it. No matter how I tried to look at this I was not happy, I was not amazed at how fucking fast it went and I was certainly not in a celebratory mood. The last thing I wanted was for the doctor to
continue.
“I’m having a child,” I said into my hands.
The doctor cleared his throat rather loudly to gain attention and I slowly dragged my hands down my face and peeked up at him over my fingers. Lauren stood by the door still but her shoulders had slumped and her arms hung freely at her sides.
“Actually…” the doctor started and rubbed the back of his head. A long silence followed before he continued. “You’re having three,”
“Hmm? Come again, doctor, I think you accidentally mispronounced one,” I said and sat up in the bed.
He showed me the chart and placed it on my knee.
“There are three heartbeats. You are having three babies. The pain you feel on occasion, the lightheadedness, and the aches are from the fetuses growing at a rapid speed, and their strength is out of the ordinary considering they haven’t grown arms or legs yet,” he said trying to lighten the mood, but the thick heavy fog laying over us was choking any joy that dared to enter.
“How is that possible? How are they so strong?” I asked in an exhale.
After my reaction to the earlier news, I could understand why he would be wary of telling me anything else.
“You’re pregnant with triplet Lycan’s,” he said slowly, word by word, leaving space and time for each word to settle in my ears.
Lauren shifted in her stance and drew a sharp breath, her eyes flickered over my face, and she stepped into the room.
“I just got word that Darian is on his way.” She said and straightened her back.
Oh no.
I grabbed the doctor’s hand and pulled him in.
“Do not tell the King about the pregnancy, promise me!”
“I- I can’t withhold-”
“One day I will be Queen, your loyalty should be as strong to me as it is to him now promise me! There is a war on its way to his doorstep, he doesn’t need this on his mind as well,”
The doctor sighed and pulled his hand back.
“I promise,” he said reluctantly.
Darian had enough going on right now; he didn’t need this worry, and if I wanted the tiniest chance to fight tonight then I needed to play my cards right.
I didn’t put it past him to lock me in the basement with Mathilda and Kiera if he found out that I was carrying his babies. Babies…plural…I can’t do this.
Just a few seconds later, Darian stormed in and came to my bedside.
“What happened to you?” He turned to the doctor. “What happened to her?” He asked more roughly.
“Low blood sugar, I haven’t been eating as I should,” I said and stroked his hand.
Everyone stayed silent and Darian turned back to me. His shirt was wrinkled and I could smell vodka on his breath.
“Are you alright?” I asked.

“As long as you’re good, I’ll be just fine,” he said.
I offered him a consoling smile and carefully shifted the chart so he wouldn’t see it. Not that I thought he would understand anything medical on there but I’m guessing the word ‘pregnant’ is written plainly somewhere.
Darian’s eyes hardened and he turned his head, he shifted his gaze to Lauren who lifted her head slowly, her eyes turned a lighter yellow and she gritted her teeth.
“They’re here.” She said.
Darian conversed privately with the doctor for a minute before he returned to the room and kissed me.
“Stay here,” he said and turned to Lauren. “Do not let her leave,”
She bowed her head and Darian disappeared out of the door.
“You hiding the fact that you’re pregnant from him will not allow you to fight, I hope you know that,” Lauren said gently.
I looked around the room and my lips parted in a soft breath. It wasn’t facts or something that had been said to me, there was no ground for this feeling I had but it was there, nagging at me.
“I don’t think the choice of my presence will be ours to make,”
