Chapter 200

“We don’t have a choice, everyone has orders to follow,”

“And you follow his?”

“I have to,”

“Why?”

He sucked on his teeth and looked around the fight starting again.

“I can’t say, but you can figure it out.” He grabbed my shoulders and gave me a light shake. “Figure it out, Hazel, and everyone will walk away from this,” he searched my eyes desperately, but his riddles were lost on me.

“You could help us, you did once before,”

“I am!” He was pleading for me to see something but I felt like a blind man trying to navigate a maze. Zade pulled me to the side when a body came flying toward us and he pushed me down and started fighting one of the rogues who came at me, when I looked around I could see that their target was changing, everyone was eyeing me and they were fighting our men to get to me.

“Zade, please just tell me what you want me to know! Tell me how to help!”

I fought off another rogue and three humans were on my tail.

Lauren ran in and fought two of the humans while I took the others and I ripped the rogue’s head clean of his body.

My hand was around the human’s throat and I squeezed until my fingers met in the middle and he fell back. The sight of blood was never an issue until now that is. My stomach turned, and I backed away and fell on all fours when everything I’d eaten came back up.

“WAIT!” The Elder growled and turned to watch me. Hell, everyone was watching me hurl on the ground over a dead human.

“She’s sick,” he breathed.

Everyone had stopped but Darian was still fighting the Councilmen. When he saw what people were watching and I was drying my mouth with my shirt he ripped their heads off, pulled out one heart, and fought his way through the others until he fell beside me. My nose wrinkled from the smell of blood and I scooted away when Darian touched me covered in intestines and human remains.

“It wasn’t low blood sugar, was it?” His voice was a dark warning, and he shook his head.

“Maybe she’s with child,” one of the rogues said and cocked her head when she looked at me.

The Elder scoffed.

“Not possible, I’ve made sure of that,”

Darian’s head turned dangerously slow to the side and he rose to his fullest height when he stood.

“What the fuck do you mean by that?”

The Elder fixed his cloak and tightened the strap tied on his chest.

“I couldn’t risk other Lycan abominations running around Valeria one day, therefore I took matters into my own hands. You and your brother will be the end of the Lycan species, werewolves will take their rightful place at the top and all will forget you ever existed,”

Darian’s back expanded and his breathing remained calm and concise. Though they were missing one little detail, now seemed a good a time as any to share it with them because I could see the game in front of me now, the board was set up and each person had played a role, I just didn’t see all of the pieces yet but it was coming together.

“If I may, what exactly have you done to ensure my infertility?” I said and took a stand next to Darian.

Chapter 200

“Witches and their herbs, they are quite wicked, even the best of them, and had no trouble blending a mix that dissolves in liquids- slowly corrupting any possibility of producing a child. You have been drinking it for months now,” he was proud, and even if it hadn’t succeeded, something ticked within me, I wanted to rip his tongue from his mouth and make him eat it.

and

“Your death will taste all that much sweeter now, and it is a prize in itself to watch your face when I tell you that you failed,” I said and put my hand on my stomach. He wanted to hurt them, to make it so they never existed. I couldn’t say I was thrilled about being pregnant, but they were mine- nobody was harming these babies.

“That is not possible,” he shook his head frantically and looked past me. “You didn’t give her the herbs?”

I turned my head and looked at Nora standing tall behind us.

He couldn’t mean that she was the one meant to supply me with the herbs. But a guilt-ridden shadow coating her eyes told me the truth.

My heart sank and my hands trembled against my stomach.

“No, I didn’t,” Nora said and stuck her chin out.

The Elder was fuming.

“You couldn’t have thrown it out, the smell would reek across Valerias every border. The vial was filled three times, what did you do with it?”

She lifted a tired head and a somber smile forced her lips up.

“I drank it.”
