Chapter 214

Darian’ POV

Why the fuck was her heart slowing down? I listened to every beat and felt myself sinking the more time passed before each one.

“Baby, stay with me,” her breaths were so fucking shallow and the doctors and healers were cutting her open to get the baby out but the cord was tangled around him and he had dug his teeth into…into her.

“This has never happened,” the doctor said under breath with her hands inside of Hazel.

It had never happened to them but it wasn’t unusual for Lycans to have teeth at birth- however, they were usually birthed by a Lycan mother and she would heal herself quicker if she was wounded. The babies aided Hazel’s healing abilities but when Trixy’s strength ran out, she couldn’t be healed.

The baby was killing her.

“Get him out.” I seethed.

“My King, we are doing the best we can,” she looked up at me. “But I’m not sure how much more she can take,”

Her voice was professional and steady but we both knew what was at stake. If Hazel didn’t start healing, and she lost any more blood, she wouldn’t survive this, and that wasn’t an option.

I looked back, a few doors down our two other children were resting. Two healthy, happy babies. A boy and a girl..

But that was my other son in there.

“My King,” she said. “you may soon need to make a difficult decision. We can guarantee one of their lives but I can’t promise you both of them,” she averted her gaze immediately after she spoke and raised her blood-soaked gloves as she reached for a scalpel.

Hazel’s fingers slipped from nine and landed limp beside her.

I fell out of the chair and staggered out of the room on unsteady feet. Everything started spinning around me, I couldn’t tell what was what and I grabbed onto the wall to keep myself up.

“My King?” A healer came up but I swatted her hand away.

My wife or my son? That wasn’t a fucking decision, that wasn’t a choice, I couldn’t lose either of them. It wasn’t fair, she had been through enough. Fuck, I had put her through enough.

She deserved everything, every goddamn good thing that could be offered, she deserved!

Not this…this pain…this ultimatum.

I grabbed my head and pulled at my hair.

Desperation washed over me, and I dug my claws into the wall, ripping through the paper when I dragged them down. I was the Lycan King of Valeria, the most powerful being in our world, and yet, in this, with the people who meant the most to me, I was useless. How could I live with myself if I made that decision? I couldn’t lose Hazel; she was everything good about me. Before her, it was an endless abyss of darkness and destruction. And there was no after her. She was everything. I leaned against the wall, knowing that if there was the faintest possibility of saving them both, I had to take it. A deep breath filled my lungs.

“Zade, if you can hear me,” Fuck, I gritted my teeth and shut my eyes. “Hazel needs you. Please,”

I opened my eyes and looked around. Everyone moved on as usual, no black fog, and no Zade. He was my only hope of saving them both.

“Please,” I breathed.

My hand slipped down the wall when I fell to my knees and buried my head in my hands.

Chapter 214

“Well, well, isn’t this a sight to behold,” I looked up at Zade’s glum smolder, he leaned back against the desk with a crystal glass in his hand. The deep gold liquid filled a third of the glass. He walked over and squatted in front of me.

“Drink this,” he swirled the glass in his outreached hand.

I circled my fingers around the crystal and the whiff of strong scotch burned my nose. Fuck it felt good.

I gulped it down in one go, reveling in the peeling burn as it went down my throat, but it did little to calm my nerves. Zade’s eyes hardened, he took the glass; the clinking sound brought me back from the haze when he tapped his ring against the edge and put it down on the desk.

“Where is she?” He asked gruffly.

We busted through the doors, startling the staff and Zade’s eyes sunk into a dark pit when he saw her laying almost lifeless on the bed.

“You should’ve called sooner,” he seethed.

“Shut up, and get it done,” I said.

“My King, there’s nothing we can do, she won’t…Hazel won’t survive this,” the doctor’s cheeks flushed red and her brows hunched when she delivered the news. But they didn’t have a Demon.

I urged the doctor to step back, everyone dropped their things and reluctantly moved away from Hazel.

Zade walked beside the bed and looked at her, he saw the big incision and the baby- from the horrific scene in front of us it was a miracle she’d survived this long.

“What’s in it for me?” He asked and slowly turned his head.

“What?” My brows furrowed and my eyes glowed when I looked at the bastard.

“If I save them, what is in it for me? What are their lives worth to you?”

This fucker- he was bargaining with me.

“He’s their only chance,” my Lycan said.

He better be, or else he’ll be dead.

”

“Whatever you want,” I said lowly.

Zade’s eyes locked on mine and a cobalt blue swirled around when he thought about his price.

“Your Lycan,” he said.

What the fuck?

After all of the bullshit he spat about liking Hazel, protecting her, and wanting what’s good for her, this is the shit he pulls?

“Listen to me you-” I started but the doctor’s eyes widened and she pointed to the machines beeping like a fucking machine about to explode.

“My King, she doesn’t have much time…she’s dying,” she breathed.

I looked at the machines and then flickered my eyes over Hazel’s pale face.

“Fine! Save them both, now!”

“And in return, I get the Kings Lycan?”

“YES!” I growled.
