Chapter 98

Iliana didn’t say anything, she hurried out of the club but I did see her wipe a tear when she ran up the stairs and it filled me with gratification.

Now there was one more issue to deal with.

“You knew this?” I asked Nora who stood waiting for the question it seemed.

She held her bag, straightened her back, and looked as composed as ever.

“I was in the room when the King discussed it with Emanuel,”

She was in the room?

Why would she be in the room when Darian is talking to another Alpha about secret business negotiations?

“Think about it,” Trixy cooed.

It took me a moment to put the pieces together but then my mouth rounded when I realized why she was there because it was suddenly obvious.

It was funny how everyone around us was partying, dancing, and drinking, I wish I had it that easy. Imagine just being able to make a dumb decision such as kissing a stranger that you’ve never met before and then waking up the next morning and telling your friends about it.

The friend I would’ve told about a kiss like that just ran out of here in tears because I broke her heart after she took mine and ripped it out of my chest.

Nora cleared her throat and pursed her lips while looking behind me.

I looked to see what it was and cursed myself when I remembered the guy from the bar whose name was still a mystery.

“Oh, I’m so sorry. Nora this is-” I said and waited for him to fill in the blank.

He smiled, his lips pulled over his teeth and he reached out his hand for her.

“Zade, it’s nice to meet you,”

They shook hands and Nora held his for a second longer than what was considered normal. She searched his face and looked down at her fingers when she pulled her hand back.

Her eyes

went between his and mine and I tried not to be too offended when she stepped between us..

Their eyes locked in a weird battle, but over what?

Nora was standing guard in front of me which looked a little funny seeing as I was a few inches taller, but that didn’t stop her from watching Zade like the bouncer in the corner who was watching out for pervs and fights.

“I guess I’ll hold off on asking for her name,” Zade said after a moment of stale glares.

“Never mind you that. You can start off by answering a simple question and if you’re truthful, I’ll introduce her to you,”

Since when did Nora make the rules?

I wanted to laugh and to push her aside to meet Zade but Nora wasn’t joking- she stood firm with her feet apart in a strong stance.

A sudden pride filled my chest and my shoulders relaxed. Was this how it felt to have someone looking out for you?

It was always me looking out for others, it never dawned on me that it might feel good to have someone in my corner doing the same for me.

“The question?” His dark eyes narrowed to slits but his lips shadowed a smile. His face wasn’t being honest about his emotions, was he having fun or was he mad? I looked down at his hands, he still held the crystal glass but his hands were relaxed. He wasn’t fiddling with anything and his brows laid over his eyes

like two caterpillars.

Zade chuckled, I looked up and saw that he was watching me.

His eyes were a beautiful blend of blue, like the deepest part of an ocean, the darkness of the water when the sun couldn’t reach it that was his eyes but they faded into a cobalt blue in the center.

My lips twitched, I felt them pulling up in a smile when I watched him- he was an enigma,

Nora cocked her head and stuck her chin out.

“What are you? You’re not wolf or Lycan, you’re certainly not human, and those are the only creatures we have on this island.”

Zade no longer made an attempt to hide his amusement and his smile stretched across his face.

“The only creatures you have or the only creatures you’re aware of?” His cocky tone earned a growl of annoyance from Nora who still refused to step aside.

“That wasn’t the question,”

His jaw clenched and his fingers tightened around the glass, he dragged his tongue over his teeth and scanned the room.

“I can tell you many things but not that. You’ll just have to trust that I don’t mean either of you any harm,”

The music blasted and people danced around us while the bartender poured shot after shot.

“Not good enough,” Nora said and stepped back towards me.

Zade’s jaw clicked like a warning, he flicked his tongue and shrugged a shoulder. I looked past him and watched the bartender grab a bottle of tequila and pour it into a mixer.

“Will you trust me if I tell you I’m an angel who’s here to answer your friend’s prayers?”

My head turned so fast it felt like it came off and I ripped my gaze from the tequila bottle and looked at Zade.

“Angels don’t come with your package,” Nora countered.

“Says who?”

I stood watching their exchange and I was curious as to what he meant about being the answer to my prayers and also wondering if they were flirting with each other.

“The devil, he’s got the monopoly on looks like yours,” Nora said.

A dark grin spread across his lips and his eyes smiled while the cobalt blue shone a little brighter.

Zade walked closer and leaned down. His head was next to Noras but his eyes found mine and captivated them with a single glance.

“He’s an angel too,” he whispered.
