Freya’s voice was trembling, and I quickly tried to comfort her: “It’s okay, there’s no trouble. It was going to happen sooner or later–we can’t avoid each other forever, right?“]
I really was prepared to meet them and have everything out in the open, but I didn’t expect them to come this fast…[
That very evening, when I walked out of the studio, I saw two figures leaning against the trees, smoking.[]

I got goosebumps all over, my skin crawling at the desperate tone. “Don’t call me that, Alpha Bloodstone. Just call me Alina Darkwood.“]
That formal address hit him like a physical blow, making his face go even paler.[]
His lips moved but no words came out for the longest time, and I felt a twisted satisfaction at his pain.]
Kaelan behind him got anxious and roughly shoved him forward.
“Alina, I’m sorry! Your brother is apologizing to you! I know, I know it’s too late to apologize now! But please give us one more chance. Come back to The Howling Vale with us, let us make it up to you properly, okay?“[]
Looking at his nervous hand–wringing, I just felt baffled and strangely detached, like I was watching strangers perform a play.
Go back? Make it up to me?
After more than twenty years, I’d never heard such a ridiculous joke.
I couldn’t help it–I actually laughed out loud, the sound harsh and bitter in the night air.]
Both Alphas froze, looking even more anxious, and I realized with dark amusement that they were actually afraid of me now.[]
“What kind of joke is this, Alpha Darkwood? Whose brother are you? I don’t have a brother, and please don’t mistake me for your sister.“]
The words came out ice–cold, each one deliberate, and I watched him flinch like I’d slapped him.
He didn’t argue with me, just stood there two steps away looking utterly lost, his eyes downcast as the dim streetlight stretched his shadow into twisted shapes.]

I was still shocked by how much weight he’d lost… even his cheeks had hollowed out. Part of me wanted to feel sorry for him, but that part was buried under too much hurt.[]
He lowered his head, trying to soften his voice:]
“Alina, I know you’re angry. I’m apologizing to you–I was completely wrong to lose my temper and throw that wine at you.“[]
“I… I shouldn’t have bullied you, shouldn’t have yelled at you. While I’ve been looking for you these past days, I also contacted the best supernatural artisans to make you a new ceremonial gown. Please forgive me and come home with me, okay?“]
His words sounded sincere enough, but strangely, they didn’t stir even the slightest ripple in my heart. If anything, they made me feel more hollow.
What he owed me, what he’d done wrong–how could it be just that one glass of wine?]]
I stared at his face and realized with a chill that it looked completely unfamiliar… like looking at a stranger wearing my brother’s face.
In my memories, whenever he’d faced me as an adult, his brow was always furrowed, his eyes full of wariness and disappointment.[]

It was like… we were children again, before everything went wrong.
I laughed bitterly, the sound hollow and broken. “I must be dreaming. Either you’re dreaming, or I am.“]
“Kaelan Darkwood, stop looking at me like that. I barely recognize you anymore… and honestly? I don’t want to.“]
He looked up, desperately trying to explain something, his Alpha composure completely shattered, but my phone rang at that exact moment–and I’d never been more grateful for an interruption.[]
