Chapter 121
~APOLLO-
As we pull up to the hotel where my siblings are waiting for me, I glance at my watch. Surprisingly, my mother has been quiet the entire drive, and her silence unnerves me more than when she’s shouting her opinions.
“Well,” she says softly, “we’re here. They’re excited to see you.”
I’m looking forward to seeing them too, but I can’t shake the restlessness I feel being away from my mate. Even a moment apart feels too long.
I wish I could have brought her with me. I wanted to introduce her to my siblings, but I knew my mother would just make her feel uncomfortable. Keeping her at a distance at least for now was for the best.
“Let’s try to make this quick,” I suggest.
The moment the words left my lips, I could see a flicker of distress cross her face. Her shoulders stiffened, and tension filled the air between us. Her eyes held unmistakable irritation as she pivoted to fully face me.
“How can you be in such a hurry when you haven’t seen your brothers in so long?” she demands from me. “And what about your sister Lily? She hasn’t seen you in ages either. How can you act like they don’t matter?”
How could she even ask such a question when I sacrificed so much for their happiness?
“How can you say they mean nothing to me when I devoted half of life to caring for them every time you had a breakdown?” I reply.
Fuck. I shouldn’t have said that. However, now that the words had left my mouth, it was far too late to stop it.
She gasps, bringing her hand to her mouth in disbelief. “I can’t believe you’d say something like that to your own mother, Apollo.”
I run a hand down my face, frustrated. “I’m sorry. I shouldn’t
said that. There is just a lot going on.”
She looks at me as though she cannot even recognize me anymore. I hate being this way to my mother after everything she’s gone through but she hasn’t exactly been making any of this easy for me.
“You sound as though you hate me. I have done nothing but love and want the best for you my entire life. You want me to accept that girl but yet this side of you only started happening because of her! She can never truly care about you if she is trying to cause problems between us!”
I could not take her words seriously. There is no way that my mother could truly believe her own words. When has Lana ever tried to stir up trouble?
I try to stay calm and not say something that would hurt her again, “mother, how long are you going to keep this up? What is it going to take for you to accept her? What do I need to do for you to finally understand that she is the woman I want to be with?”
I can tell that this conversation is not going the way that she wants it to. I never thought I would one day be having a conversation like this with her either.
“I cannot accept her.” She snaps as she folds her arms over her chest stubbornly.
I sigh and turn away, tired of this argument. “Then we are going to have a problem. I do not plan on being with anyone but her.”
Her body shakes with rage at my words, “a
“are you trying to tell me that you are unwilling to marry Jada even after you made a promise to marry her? Are you forgetting what a promise is? Do you just make promises now that you never intended to grant?”
Fuck.
I knew making a promise like that would have come back to bite me in the ass. Now look at me. At a loss for words,
thought I would be able to ignore Lana and marry Jada like you wished for me to do. It is the only reason I made such a promise to you.” I tell her. “But,

*I do not think you tried hard enough.” She tells me “I know you. I know when you’re trying and can all that you’re not trying at all to ignora Kari Pourra giving into the temptations. When you care for someone as much as i cared for your father and I can see you feel the same way about her, yols are brend to get hurt. I am trying to protect you!”
I understood why my mother felt this way. It was true that what happened with my father affected her a lot. that would happen with Lana and me.
swever, that doesn’t mean demething e
“I had the perfect life for you.” She tells me. “Please son, do not give it up. Jada is the woman for you. A mother knows.
I barely have a moment to react when i catch the sound of my name being called. The familiar tones of my siblings resonate in the air, instantly recognizable despite the loud cars around us.
I felt a sense of pride and joy at seeing them all together like this. I have done everything to always keep them safe and happy I felt sort of gufty for finally putting myself first tonight, especially knowing what could take place if my mother had another one of her episodes in front of them
They weren’t aware of Lana being my mate as far as I knew and that meant they were most likely puzzled by what happened during the ceremony. However, they hid their concern well as they walk over to me with bright smiles on their faces. Their joy at seeing me radiated in their expressions.
Lily rushes forward and hugs me first, and Toya follows right after.
“I missed you so much!” Lily cries.
“Why do they always have to be such babies when they see you?” Caleb asks.
“Come here!” I tell him as I pull him in for a hug.
“You too,” I order Theo as I try my best to hug all four of them.
“We came to see you get engaged, we didn’t expect to see so much entertainment instead.” Caleb teases, trying to lighten the mood, no doubt.
I look at my mother and she has that look on her face, like she plans on telling them everything.
Fuck.
I didn’t want that to happen and for them to worry about me at all.
“Things got a bit out of hand, but it was just a simple misunderstanding,” I say, lying. I figured now wasn’t the right time to come clean.
“Mom told us that girl is our step–sister,” Lily says, curiosity in her voice. “She seems pretty close to you–just like we are.”
I felt a knot tighten in my stomach.
“Well, sweetheart, she is also his sister as well as yours since your father married her mummy,” my mother interjects, putting heavy emphasis on the word “sister.”
My mother has never accepted them as part of the family. On so many occasions she reminded me that Lana and her siblings should not mean more than my blood relations. It was ironic that she felt the need to say this now.
My siblings seemed completely oblivious to the whole situation.
“Why don’t you all share with your brother how disappointed you were when he didn’t get engaged to Jada?” she asks them.
Why was she pulling them into this situation? I always suspected she would resort to some trick to make me bend to her demands, but i didn’t want my brothers and sisters to be dragged into our disagreement.
