Chapter 139
Chapter 139
-LANA-
As Apollo crashed to the ground before me, a wave of terror surged through my veins, intensifying the fear that had already settled deep within me.
No.
This was not supposed to happen. He was not supposed to collapse after the rejection.
His eyes, usually bright and full of life, were clouded and hysterical as he stared at me as though he couldn’t properly see me in front of him.
From his reaction, I couldn’t shake the unsettling feeling that something was terribly wrong. This wasn’t just an ordinary response to rejection; his body language spoke volumes of distress and irresistible pain.
I couldn’t help but feel a hundred times worse for rejecting him now that it seemed to have a much more negative impact than I expected.
But why was he the only one feeling this level of pain? After a rejection, we were both supposed to feel immense pain, yet he was the only one going through it.
What could possibly be wrong? Did I not do it the right way?
The air felt heavy with uncertainty, and every instinct screamed at me to do something to help him. Yet, the more! tried to get through to him, the more he continued to lose himself.
“APOLLO!” I scream as I drop to the ground next to him. “Please. Please. Say something. Tell me what I can do to help.”
I place both hands on his cheeks as I try to get him to look at me. I gasp as he stares at me in a daze, seeming as though he was in another world. Now more than ever, I knew that he couldn’t see me in front of him.
“What’s wrong with him?” I hear one of the kidnappers ask the leader, repeating my earlier question. It was clear that this wasn’t a normal reaction at all judging by their surprised expressions.
“He isn’t taking to the rejection well.” Another one answers. “He might be going into shock.”
I cancel out their voices as I focus on my step–brother.
I take his head and gently place it on my lap as I continue to call his name, hoping that I would eventually get a response from him.
I feel my heartbeat increase when his eyes slowly shut in front of me.
“Apollo!” I gasp. “Apollo!”

Chapter 139
The urgency in my voice increases as I try to revive my mate. He was motionless in front of me, and the panic inside of me continued to grow.
“Get her off him.” I hear one of the kidnappers say, his voice echoing in my head.
“No!” I hiss as I cover my mate’s body with my own. “I did as you asked, I will not let you hurt him anymore.”
“You have one minute to get off him.” The leader growls, annoyance clear in his features.
I didn’t care what any of them had to say. I did as they asked and now my mate was suffering because of it.
A new kind of pain has found its way into my heart, and I know it was my actions that brought this on. I was responsible for what happened, and now I would do everything in my power to protect him. I wasn’t concerned about their threats or what might happen to me; my only priority was keeping him safe from harm.
“I am not going anywhere.” I snap. “If you want to get to him, you have to go through me.”
They all exploded into laughter, their voices ringing of mockery, as if my warning carried no weight at all.
“Do you see how many of us there are?” the leader asks, a smirk playing on his lips. “And yet, there’s just one of you. You might want to reconsider your words. My patience is wearing thin.”
I tighten my grip around Apollo. “I’m not afraid of you. I’ve never been afraid of you. I only agreed to protect
mate.”
They laugh, a cruel sound that echoes in the air. “He is no longer your mate.”
Their words hit me like a punch to the gut. It doesn’t feel that way at all. If anything, my feelings for Apollo have only deepened, reaching an intensity that feels almost overwhelming.
I can’t quite put it into words, but it physically aches to breathe when I see him like this in my arms, suffering because of something I did.
I am about to respond to the men when the chilling sound of wolves howling echoes throughout the room, their calls resonating with a dreadful urgency that alerts us all.
+freeze. The sounds continue to grow louder and immediately I could tell…It was them.
Apollo’s pack. I knew I was not mistaken. They’d found us. They’d finally found us.
“His pack has tracked us down!” one of the kidnappers exclaims. I can see lines of panic forming across their face as they hastily gather their things, in a rush to escape.
“Everyone, flee immediately!” the leader bellows, his voice cutting through the tension like a knife. “And stay out of their sight! We need to get out of here before it’s too late!”
I was surprised by the level of uneasiness on their faces as they tried to evade being found by my mate’s pack.

Chapter 139
The once bold and uncaring demeanor they displayed just minutes prior had vanished, replaced by true fear. It was evident that they knew the power that Apollo’s pack exhibited.
Their sudden behavior only reinforced my earlier judgment; they truly were nothing more than cowards in the
end.
One after the next, the kidnappers rush out of the house, abandoning Apollo and me. While I was happy that they were gone, that happiness doesn’t last long as I stare at my unmoving mate.
What had I done?
If I had waited just a moment longer, his pack would have found us. I felt sick to my stomach at that revelation.
He begged me not to reject him, he told me that everything would be okay and yet I still went through with it. I thought I was doing the right thing to protect him. I went against his wishes and now, no matter how much! screamed his name, he was not waking up for me.
“I’m so sorry,” I whisper, my voice breaking as hot tears stream down my face, as I continue to cradle his motionless body tightly against my chest, the weight of my actions pressing down on me. “Please forgive me. Apollo. Please. I’m so sorry. This is all my fault.”
All my fault.
