I didn’t want to pry about the girl, but my curiosity got the better of me, creating an unsettling hesitation about the entire situation.
“I think it’s best if we steer clear of this topic,” he said, disappointing me right away.
Why did he not want to speak about her? His response only made me want to know more about her.
“She seems quite close to your mother,” I note. “Honestly, she looked much happier with her than she did with me during our first meeting.”
I could see that Apollo was feeling uneasy as our conversation unfolded.
Isabella, noticing us talking, frowns. “Did something happen?”
Crossing my arms defiantly, I reply, “I just met Apollo’s mother, and let me tell you, she’s quite the character.”
Isabella looks amused, saying, “His mother actually came here? What a shocker!”
I hid a smile as we continued to tease Apollo about his insufferable mother.
“I won’t be home tonight,” he says suddenly, catching me off guard. Apollo usually doesn’t like to share his plans with me.
Isabella frowns. “Big deal. You’re hardly ever home, always off finding your next ‘meal‘ for the week.”
Apollo chuckles at her comment while glancing at me for my reaction.
I tried not to show my annoyance, but it was tough to hide my feelings in front of him. I was still disgusted by his player ways.
My thoughts drifted back to his mother and the new girl he seemed eager to keep under wraps.
Was he planning to meet up with them? Was that why he had to leave so suddenly?
Unable to hold back, I ask, “Where are you staying tonight?”
Isabella looks at me in confusion, clearly surprised by my sudden interest in Apollo’s life. Ignoring her gaze, I focus on him, wanting an answer and
wanting it now.
He frowns. “Do I really need to tell you that?”
I cross my arms with frustration and glare at him. “No, you don’t. And I’m not going to tell you where I’m headed tonight either.”
could feel the tension in the air as my words hung between us. I hadn’t planned on going anywhere; I’d made that up just to annoy him, and it seemed to be working. Apollo was definitely upset.
Before he could respond, i turned and walked away, Isabella following closely behind.
“You didn’t mention you had plans tonight?” my sister asks. “We always do stuff together.”
I sigh. “I just made it up.”
Her frown deepens. “Why do you sound like you’re only planning to go out because Apollo has plans?”
I bit my lip. “No,” I lied. “I’m just tired of being cooped up in this house all the time. Especially after the attack.”
Her eyes widened with concern; Isabella still hadn’t recovered from what had happened. I wasn’t sure I could convince her to go out with me tonight.

She sighs. “understand that feeling. But I’m not sure if it’s safe for us to go out at this hour.”
I shrug. “Apollo said they caught the culprit and that he acted alone. He assured me we have nothing to worry about anymore.”
Her eyes lit up with hope. “Are you sure it’s safe?”
Inod. “We’ll stick to crowded places. Nothing will happen there.”
I had no idea where I wanted to visit. I was simply doing this to irritate my mate.
As I step out of my room an hour later, wearing one of my sister’s designs, I’m surprised to find Apollo waiting just outside my door.

His gaze locks onto me, and I can feel the tension in the air. Anger flickers in his eyes as they start at my face and trail down the length of my body. The look he gives me feels predatory, like a hunter closing in on its prey.
“Where are you headed?” he questions, his voice low and steady.
I narrow my eyes in response. “I won’t spill any details unless you come clean about your plans for the night.”
His jaw tightens. “I’ll be staying at a hotel.”
My heart sinks at his words.
“With another random woman, I assume?” I blurt out, regretting my lack of restraint. The fact that our kiss hadn’t shifted anything between us stung more than I cared to admit.
He leans closer, his lips just inches from mine. “Why? Does that bother you?”
I shove him away in frustration and march down the hall, feeling the weight of his gaze on me as my hips sway intentionally, determined to draw his
attention.
“You look like you’re ready to pick a fight,” Isabella remarks when she catches sight of my furious expression.
internally groan, not wanting her to see how much Apollo’s presence affected me, especially since she already suspected something was brewing
between us.
“I’m just excited to go out,” I lie, trying to brush it off.
She rolls her eyes, unimpressed. “That’s not exactly the face of someone simply looking forward to a night out.”
Ignoring her, I lead the way to the garage..
“Am I driving?” Isabella questions.
“You know the answer to that,” I reply as I slide into the driver’s seat. “I can’t trust you with my keys again after you ditched me at that beach party.”
She sighs dramatically. “Are we still revisiting that? I’ve apologized a million times!”
Meanwhile, my thoughts drift back to Apollo. I didn’t find out which hotel he would be at tonight or who he’d be spending time with, and I knew these questions would gnaw at me throughout the evening.
“Are you listening to me?” Isabella’s voice pulls me back to the moment as I pull out of the driveway.
“What?” I ask, struggling to focus on what she’s saying.
“I think Apollo might be following us.”
I glance in the rearview mirror, and sure enough, there he is, just pulling out of the driveway behind us.

“Maybe his hotel is in this direction,” I suggest casually.
He wouldn’t actually follow me, would he?
