Alpha’s White Lie
Chapter 146
Blake’s room was at the end of the second floor with a sceptical view of the forest. It was a bit of a walk to his room, given this place was huge and had enough bedrooms to house a small village. Blake explained that the mansion was once a packhouse and catered for over 150 people. However, once they bought the town and the pack grew, everyone scattered around, leaving the mansion for just the Alpha and his family. Since Blake was the King of the East
he had his own place, but Sue insisted we stay with them while I was learning the ropes, so we didn’t have to go back and forth.
As I got closer to the bedroom, the anticipation of what was going to happen next had me shaking a little. I rubbed my arm, trying to get rid of the goosebumps forming. I took the last few steps and stood in front of the semi–open door, peeking in through the crack to see where Blake was.
I couldn’t see any movement. Rocky did say he was here. Pushing the door open more, I poked my head in. As far as I could see, the room was empty. Where was Blake?
Mustering up as much courage as I could, I walked into the room and looked around in the spots I missed. The shower wasn’t going, the balcony was empty. and so was the closet. He wasn’t anywhere.
I let out a sigh of relief. The trouble hadn’t passed, but it had been postponed.
Should I call him?
That thought had me looking around for my phone. I had put it in my purse when we left for the church this morning.
Shit! I left my purse in Blake’s car. Now what?!
“You okay?” Blake’s voice made me jump.
I turned around to find him leaning against the bedroom door with his arms crossed.
“You promised you wouldn’t do that. I have a human heart that isn’t as strong as yours” I put my hand over my chest, trying to calm my racing heart.
“You’re half–werewolf, Angel. Your heart is stronger than you think.” He strolled towards me.
Blake was wearing a pair of black sweatpants and a black vest, not his usual attire. Something about Blake was very off.
“You okay?” He stood two steps away from me.
Another unusual action.
“Yeah, I’m okay. How did things go with Alpha Morris?” I cleared my throat, trying to get rid of the lump forming.
“He wants blood, but I’m sure there’s a misunderstanding. Once he calms down, I’ll go see him again,” Blake replied casually, stuffing his hands into his pocket.
“Did you know about all this? About the bloodline, Richard came from? About the curse?”
“Morris mentioned it when I went to see him,” Blake replied casually again.
“And you didn’t bother to tell me?”
should
“You were already so upset. I didn’t want to add to your pain. Besides, if the curse had been triggered like Morris says it has, why is he still alive? Why didn’t things start going wrong the moment you were born? Curses don’t wait for a certain time to start working. As soon as a catalyst is ad start the reaction. There’s no way Richard’s death is connected to you.”
“So maybe Max is right.” I blurted.
“Is he now?” Blake raised his eyebrow and tilted his head to the side.
“I mean, he mentioned that Morris could be lying because there wasn’t any chatter about this curse” I chose my words wisely.
Hmm, interesting. I’ll get dad to talk to the coven. See if they’ve heard something” Blake looked into the distance.
Chapter 146
“You don’t want to talk to Max? I mean, he is a powerful warlock. Maybe he can help?” I chewed the inside of my cheek, hoping I wasn’t overstepping
I knew Blake didn’t want Max involved, but I had to get them to work together What I didn’t want to do was get on Blake’s bad side in my attempts to make
that happen.
“One car ride with the guy, and your already singing his praises, huh? Aren’t you a good friend” Blake snickered.
