Chapter 26

“Yes, you will. I really don’t want to go back now. If I had known this would happen, I would have taken some time off,” Vince replied. His eyes were holding me captive again.

“Well, if you wouldn’t have turned up, maybe I would have taken longer to decide to give you a chance.” I chuckled.

“Well then, glad I came to drop Taylor off.” he laughed. I leaned in and kissed him again.

“Drive safe and let me know when your home” he nodded and let me go.

I got out of the car and watched him drive away.

Lilly was standing at her desk when I got to my office.

“Boss, I thought you said you’d be late” she looked confused.

“Yeah, well, thank you for reminding me my 8 am meeting was with Blake,” I replied to her and walked into my office.

“Shit, I’m sorry! I thought you knew who your meeting was with.”

“It’s okay. I’m here now. Do you know what the meeting is about?” I asked her, and she shrugged. Just then, my office phone rang.

“Hello,” I answered.

“Hey, Rosy. Oh good, your in. Stay in your office; I’ll come there for the meeting” it was Blake.

“Oh, okay then. I’ll see you soon.” I hung up.

“Okay, so he’s coming here. Lilly, can you please get me a cup of coffee and something to eat. I didn’t get to eat this morning.”

“Sure thing, boss. Shall I wait for Blake and see if he’d like something?” She asked.

“You know what, yes, please. Let’s show Blake how we do things here in Sales and Marketing,” I beamed at Lilly.

Blake and I spent the next 4 hours in my office going through projects we had done and where we had successes, and where we failed. How the teams I created worked and what their goals were. How we got new clients and all the rest. We also met the team that was going to organize the gala and had a catch-up about that. By the time we were done, it was lunchtime. Blake offered to buy me lunch, but I declined. Since he took up so much of my time, I had other meetings to get on with.

It was around 5 pm when I finally sat down and had a proper meal. I picked up my phone, and I had two messages from Taylor to say she would be home late, and that was all. Nothing from Vince. He said he would message. So I called him. There was no answer. Before I could put my phone down, I received a message.

Hey babe, so sorry. I got caught up at work and forgot to message you. Just in a meeting right now. Call you soon I smiled and put my phone down.

I was silly. We’re adults, and we get caught up at work. Look at me today. I was so busy I only got to check my messages at 5 pm. I had nothing to worry about. I didn’t, right?

Something still felt really off, but I just shoved it to the back of my mind. Finally, at 6 pm, Lilly and I decided it was time to go home.

She walked me out of the building, and I went to catch my bus. On the bus ride home, I kept thinking about Vince. I listened to my music and let my head fill with thoughts of him.

I got off at a stop before mine and got Taylor and me some dinner before walking home.

Once home, I plated myself some dinner and ate while watching Vampire Diaries. I looked at the time when I heard the door open, and it was almost 8. I still hadn’t heard from Vince. This was expected, right?

Taylor walked in and plopped next to me on the couch.

“Wow, what a day it’s been” she stretched her body.

“Hmm yeah. There’s some food on the counter,” I replied, absentminded.

“What’s wrong with you?” She asked, obviously picking up my mood.

“I don’t know. I think Vince is avoiding me, but then I think I’m overthinking this,” I replied and turned towards her.

“Okay, well, what makes you think he’s avoiding you?”

“He said he would message me when he got to Greenwoods. I got busy at work and only picked up my phone around 5. You were the only person that had messaged. So I tried calling Vince, and he didn’t answer, but I got a text saying he forgot to message me and that he was in a meeting and would call me soon. That was at 5 pm. I still haven’t heard from him. Is it normal for boyfriends not to message? Like, am I expecting too much?”

“Well, no, actually it isn’t, but then again, it’s Vince. He has lunch and dinner meetings with clients and sometimes just loses track of time. Why don’t you try calling him now and see what happens? I’m going to get some food” she got off the couch.

I grabbed my phone and dialed Vince’s number. It rang and rang and went to the voice message. Was he avoiding me?

“Any luck?” Taylor asked, and I shook my head.

“That’s really weird. Vince should have at least answered to say that he was busy and will call you back,” she said. “Okay, don’t worry. I’m sure he will call you soon. Let’s just watch TV.”
