6 Chapter 6
In the silence, Wright sighed. “Yes. My staff is incompetent. I have to do their jobs for them.”
I shifted slightly. “You don’t have to push yourself so hard.”
His grip on my waist tightened. “How can you say that? If I don’t work hard, how can I give my wife the world?”
“Did you like the blue diamond?” he murmured. “Lucia mentioned the new cobalt blue collections are out. I can buy them all for you.”
“Fine,” I replied, a bitter smile on my lips.
I knew these clothes were his penance for tonight’s betrayal.
I once believed his gifts were symbols of love. Now, the thought of them filled me with disgust. They were badges of his shame.
The next day, every cobalt blue piece from every top designer was delivered to our penthouse. My phone flooded with posts from fashion blogs, gushing about Wright’s devotion. From a blue diamond to blue couture, he was building a fantasy for the world.
Women tagged their partners, begging for the same.
I could only shake my head. He had deceived the entire world.
At ten o’clock, the doorbell chimed.
Lucia was overseeing the delivery. She stood at the entrance, barking orders at the staff like she owned the place. I stayed on the terrace, reading my book.
She pushed a rack of clothes past me, and a delicate, lacy lingerie set fell to the floor.
Lucia’s face flushed. She snatched it up. “My apologies, Rannie. This was a gift for me from my boyfriend. The store must have mixed up our orders.”
I glanced at the sheer lace. “It’s fine. Young couples are passionate.”
My indifference bothered her. “Honestly,” she began, “I have some wonderful news. Can you keep a secret?”
I raised an eyebrow. “What is it?”
She placed a hand on her stomach, her face beaming. “I’m pregnant!”
I wasn’t surprised. But her next words were designed to wound.
“Thaven’t told my boyfriend yet,” she added. “I want to wait. Can you keep it a secret?”

I smiled, my voice even. “Who is your boyfriend? If I don’t know him, how can I keep it a secret?”
A cryptic smile curled her lips. “My boyfriend is a mystery, but I’m sure you know him. A man that powerful and handsome is hard to miss.”
She was desperate for me to ask for his name.
