Chapter 10

Evan stared at Beverly in shock. “Honey, what’s wrong?”

They always gave each other goodbye kisses. It wasn’t convenient to do that while Beverly was seated in the car, so he’d leaned in for a forehead kiss.

“Nothing!” Beverly grabbed a tissue to wipe her forehead. “You’ll smear my makeup.”

He bought the lie and leaned in again to say, “Drive safe, honey. Remember to let me know when you’re back at the office.”

He checked his watch. “I need to sign a contract. Let’s pick up Harry together after work before heading back to Gray Manor. Mom was delighted when she heard that we’re moving in with her. She told the chefs to cook all your favorites.”

Beverly glanced in the rearview mirror and saw Calvin waiting for Evan by the roadside. She said, “Alright.”

Evan watched as Beverly drove off before walking to an SUV. Calvin got in with him.

The vehicle smoothly joined the rest of the traffic and made its way to Nordo Villas. There, Cindy stood at the door of a villa, waiting to greet them. She enthusiastically threw herself into Evan’s arms when she saw him.

Behind her stood another woman-Camelia, who’d left the restaurant before them. She smiled at the two men, and all four of them headed inside the villa together.

That was the scene Beverly witnessed after trailing the SUV to the villa. She was stunned, and she tightened her hold on the steering wheel, unable to believe what she’d just seen.

Why was Camelia there?

Countless memories flashed through Beverly’s mind-Camelia being indignant on her behalf, calling Cindy a bitch, and even saying that she would hit Cindy each time she saw her…

Why was her best friend hanging out so harmoniously with the woman who’d destroyed her family?

Beverly squeezed her stinging eyes shut. She thought she’d run out of tears to shed, but her eyes still grew wet. She couldn’t

believe what she was seeing.

She got out of the car, but her body was so stiff that she tripped and fell onto the tar road. She scraped her palms and knees, but the pain didn’t seem to register. She clambered to her feet and approached the villa.

The four people sat in the living room.

“Cammy, tell us what’s going on with Beverly.” Calvin glanced at Evan, who was resting his eyes. “Evan’s going out of his mind with worry.”

Camelia saw how gloomy Evan was because of Beverly and couldn’t help saying sarcastically, “You’ve cheated on Bev with Cindy for five years. Does it even matter how she feels now?”

“What do you know? Beverly is Evan’s wife, after all. Didn’t you see what happened earlier? Everyone thought he’d bullied Beverly when she ignored him earlier,” Calvin said. “How can he not care about her? People will call him an unfaithful bastard. You know he can’t be embroiled in any scandals-Gray Corporation’s stock price will take a hit.”

So, Calvin wasn’t the only one who’d lied to her. Camelia had as well. The latter’s words stabbed Beverly like knives, and pain coursed through her abdomen, making her double over.

She didn’t hear the rest of their conversation. All she knew was that Camelia had long since known about Evan’s affair with Cindy, yet she’d lied to Beverly with the rest of them.

They were best friends, and they shared in each other’s joy and sorrow. They were there for each other’s most important

moments.

Tears streamed down Beverly’s face. Camelia’s betrayal made her feel even worse than Evan’s had.

Why had Camelia done this?

The pain in her abdomen intensified, and cold sweat beaded on her forehead. Her consciousness seemed to leave her as she started trembling. However, she knew she couldn’t collapse there. She forced herself to straighten up and staggered back to her

car.

Behind her, Cindy looked away from her limping figure with a smirk. She lowered the kitchen drapes and took a tray of tea and snacks to the living room.

She was smug after hearing Camelia complaining about her earlier and Calvin’s subsequent explanation. She knew Evan had his reasons for caring about Beverly-he was just worried any changes in his marriage would affect Gray Corporation’s stock price and reputation. He didn’t love Beverly anymore!

Cindy was used to being docile and compliant when Evan was around. After putting the tray down, she headed upstairs to get dressed so he would go wild over her later.

Once she disappeared upstairs, Calvin said, “All bigwigs have mistresses, and Cindy is the only one Evan has. Even if Beverly finds out, she won’t—”

“Beverly can never know about this,” Evan cut in severely, bringing Calvin’s haughty words to a stop. His sharp gaze swept over

Calvin and Camelia.

Calvin’s breathing hitched, and he immediately switched tacks. “Of course she can’t. Don’t worry, Evan. We’re all tight-lipped- your secret is safe with us.”

Beverly already knew the truth, though. And that wasn’t all-she was going to leave Evan.

Camelia hadn’t expected Cindy to be enough to make them split up, nor had she expected Cindy to be capable of keeping Evan enchanted for so long-long enough for them to have a child together and long enough for Beverly to find out.

Now, Beverly had also experienced the agony of having the man she loved stolen from her. The mere thought of her being tormented made Camelia smirk.

Calvin said, “Cammy, hurry up and tell Evan what exactly is wrong with Beverly.”

“What else could it be? She’ll be on her period soon, so it’s only natural that she’s not in the best spirits.” Camelia had no

intention of telling Evan about Beverly’s plan.

His love for Beverly was bone-deep. Only after she left him would he revert to his old self, and only then would Camelia stand a

chance with him.

Calvin was relieved to hear that. “You can relax now, Evan. Beverly’s just feeling unwell, and she’ll cling to you again when she goes back to normal in a few days.”

Evan frowned. He couldn’t believe he’d forgotten about Beverly’s period. This was something that had never happened before.

“Well, we won’t keep you two any longer.” Calvin held Camelia’s hand. “Once you two are done, I’ll come back to pick Cindy up.”

He turned and took a few steps, then stopped. “Evan, are you sure about sending Cindy abroad? Beverly wouldn’t have known about her if she hadn’t gone to the villa to be with Harry. They’ve stayed out of each other’s lives for five years, and there’s no chance of them seeing each other again. Is it necessary to send her abroad?”

Calvin knew how obsessed Evan was with Cindy. He had to put it in her daily, and Calvin was worried he would get blue balls without her around.

Calvin thought of how weak Beverly was and sneered inwardly. Evan must have suffered with her.

“I won’t break any promise I make to Beverly.” Evan waved a hand, and Calvin and Camelia left.

As Camelia shut the door, she saw Cindy come downstairs in sexy lingerie. She glared at Cindy, wanting nothing more than to rip the latter to shreds.

Then again, she wouldn’t stoop low enough to get jealous over a shameless mistress who couldn’t even show herself in public. Cindy was nothing more than a tool for Evan to satisfy his sexual desires; what Camelia wanted was to stand by his side as his

wife.

Cindy leaned into Evan’s arms once they were alone. She traced his chest with a finger, slowly moving it down his torso and onto his inner thigh. She said coquettishly, “Come and taste the tea I made, Evan.”

She picked up a teacup and took a sip, bringing her lips close to Evan’s. His Adam’s apple bobbed, and his gaze darkened as he sealed her lips with his.

Across the road outside the villa, Beverly witnessed Evan and Cindy get it on through the window. The blood drained from her face and trickled down her legs. Finally, she passed out, no longer able to withstand the double blow of physical and emotional pain.

A crowd gathered outside the villa, causing a ruckus. Evan caught a glimpse of a familiar Ferrari through the gaps and shoved Cindy away. As he dashed out, he cried, “Honey!”
