Chapter 7
“Mr. Oswin, are you certain that Mrs. Oswin jumped from the
19th floor?”
A police officer approached Bryce cautiously, voice low and
careful.
Bryce just stood there, head tilted back, eyes rimmed red as he stared up at the half–open window on the 19th floor.
He let the cold night rain pelt his face, drop by drop.
“I saw her jump…
“How could this be…”
He muttered to himself, voice hollow.
“What about the other areas? Did you check the platform on the
second floor?
“Is it possible she landed on someone else’s balcony?”
Suddenly, these possibilities flashed through his mind, and he
spun around.
The officer shook his head helplessly, trying to offer some

comfort.
“Mr. Oswin, we’ve searched everywhere. There’s not a trace–not
even a strand of hair.”
At this point, even the police didn’t know how to proceed with
the case.
Both Bryce and Karley insisted they’d seen Angela leap from the
19th floor with their own eyes.
But at the scene, there wasn’t a single clue to prove it. It was as
if she’d vanished into thin air.
Karley was still shaken from what had just happened.
“Let’s go home.
“This whole thing is so creepy.
“I’m scared…”
But before she could finish, Bryce’s hand came down hard
across her face.
Much harder than Angela’s slap earlier–so hard Karley’s head
spun, and she nearly lost her balance.
Bryce’s face was dark, stormy as he stepped up to her, the air

around him heavy and cold.
He grabbed her chin, forcing her to meet his gaze.
“Who told you to hit my wife?”
Tears welled in Karley’s eyes as she bit her lip, looking pitiful
and wronged.

“Didn’t you say you brought me here to confront her…?”
“I said I’d back you up.
“But the moment you walked in, you slapped her.
“I never agreed to that.”

His grip tightened, sliding from her chin down to her throat
without him even realizing.
“Karley.
“If you hadn’t insisted on making a scene for the sake of your
baby-
“If you hadn’t stirred things up today-
“Angela wouldn’t have…”
Karley stared at Bryce, his eyes bloodshot, face twisted with

grief and rage, as if he wanted to strangle her right then.
She started to gasp for air, using the last of her strength to pry
his hand away and force out a sentence.
“Brycie…
“I’m carrying your child…”
”
That one word–Brycie–brought Bryce back to the past, to how
Angela used to call him so softly.
He snapped out of it, releasing his grip.
الله الله الله الله الله
But the face in front of him wasn’t Angela’s. It was someone
else, flushed red and coughing violently.
”
Bryce froze for a moment, taking in the chaos around him.
In the crowd of strangers, there was only one face he wanted to
see–and she was nowhere to be found.
Reality crashed down on him, raw and merciless.
He remembered, all at once, that five minutes ago, his Angela
had leapt from the 19th floor right in front of his eyes.
Her fate was still unknown.
Panic seized him. He stumbled away, fleeing toward his car in
