Chapter 28
Yet it was this very man who had once sweet talked her, vowing she was the only one for him and he would love her till death did them part. Looking back now, Vivian wanted to kick her past self, ‘How could I have been so damn blind? Mason? Reliable? Responsible? What a fucking joke. I gave him everything my heart, my soul, my goddamn sanity. Thought he was my knight in shining armor. Turns out I am just his personal clown, a walking blood bank, his fucking doormat. How pathetic! I’m just a lovesick fool who fell for the oldest trick in the book.
“Vivian, are you satisfied now? Is this what you want? Now go and give her your blood.” Mason said.
Vivian’s gaze swept over the two of them, icy with disdain. “Satisfied with what? Marrying you? Mason, get over yourself. You think you’re some kind of catch? If you want my blood, 100 million. Cash upfront. Then we’ll talk.”
*100 million! Vivian, have you lost your mind? Why don’t you go rob a bank? Even the Federal Reserve doesn’t just cough up that kind of cash. You’ll get 100 million when pigs fly.” Before Mason could react, Chloe was the first to explode. She was really pissed off, never expecting Vivian to be so greedy.
Vivian’s face stayed stone cold, her words just as icy. “Oh, so even you know this could only happen when pigs fly?”
Chloe glared at her, seething with anger. Mason, too, thought Vivian was being utterly unreasonable. The girl who used to jump when he said jump was now giving him hell at every turn. Frustrated, he rubbed his temples and snapped, “Vivian, you’re only making me hate you more. Stop this nonsense, okay?”
Vivian barked a laugh, ‘God, these two are so pathetic.‘ Then she tilted her head, “Cut the crap. If you can’t pay up, then shut your mouths. 100 million, plus you begging on your knees, maybe I’ll spare a vial. Otherwise, let’s see how long Chloe lasts without my blood.”
Chloe and Mason gaped, speechless. Then Chloe caught Mason’s eyes fixed on Vivian. It rubbed her the wrong way. She bit down hard on her lip, thinking, “This bitch is putting on an act just to get Mason’s attention. Pathetic slut.”
Just then, Chloe’s sister, Lily, barged in. “Vivian, you’re finally here! Hurry up, come with me. We’re drawing blood now!” She reached out to grab Vivian’s arm, but Vivian sidestepped.
Lily’s voice turned shrill at once, “You’re not going?”
O
Vivian didn’t flinch. With her big sister back, she wasn’t alone anymore. “That’s right. I’m not going. If your ears are just for decoration, I can cut them off and feed them to the dogs.”
“How dare you say that to me!” Lily gaped at the girl who’d once been quiet and obedient. Before, Vivian wouldn’t even make a sound when yelled at. But now, she was talking back. Lily was the sort who never let a slight go unpunished. In the blink of an eye, she smacked Vivian right across the face. The loud slap echoed through the air, and the whole hospital room went dead silent.
