Chapter 66
Valencia
Fabian cleared his throat as he led me in and looked around for empty seats. King Aecidus was seated at the far end of the table, and I could see Martin
seated beside him.
Martin was hanging onto every word the King spoke, and a few other faces too were listening to him with rapt attention.
I didn’t know who they were, probably the King’s inner circle. I looked around, hoping that Killian had come through some other door, but there seemed to be only two that I could see and both were closed right now.
‘Where are you, Killian?‘ I wondered as Fabian attempted to get my attention again.
“Are you still angry with me?” He asked me suddenly.
I looked at him in surprise. “I didn’t think you would bother to bring that up”
Fabian sighed.
“As much as I would like to pretend I was being nice to you, I was not. I only wanted to gain favor with Martin…” He said, looking over to his brother and the King before continuing.
“…my brother has a special place in the King’s eyes, and anybody who is close to Martin gets a chance to be close to the King.”
Fabian looked at that scene with longing. I almost felt a
of pity for him.
“Isn’t that your father? Can you not walk up to him and request to have a word with him?” I asked.
Fabian shook his head.
“It is not that easy, Blessed One. King Aecidus birthed several kids, boys and girls. But his firstborn, who is still alive, gets his undivided attention. King Aecidus believes Martin is the one who will bring glory back to Elorin.”
I let my gaze travel to where Fabian was staring at longingly.
“So pardon me for being selfish and trying to do something that was against my wishes to please Martin. I know it was not good of me, and that you will probably never trust me again but I was just desperate.”
Fabian said, and I could see guilt in his eyes. But I still wanted to be cautious after how Martin and he made me run around like a scared chicken.
I imagined how it felt to long for just a word with the person whose blood leave, and a ruler who openly discriminates against his children.
“Doesn’t that make you resent him?” I blurted out.
Fabian shook his head and chuckled.
“Funny right? You must think what a wimp I am,”

I didn’t know what to respond to that, so I only gave him an awkward smile as he stepped
“I guess I have my answer then. I will not pester you for the rest of the night and burden ide
Fabian said and walked away to talk to the others.

My company.”
And I stood staring at the table like an idiot. I didn’t realize how stupid I would look to be just standing around idly while everybody was chatting and drinking heartily.

Chapter 66
I should have thought about it earlier, but Fabian had walked a bit further for me to call out his name loudly
Hooked at the doors again, and there was no hint of Killian. My best bet now would be Sir Nicholas, the man who had given me an invitation wacker
I let my eyes wander around the table to look for him, but he also was nowhere to be found.
Now what was I supposed to do?
The doors behind me opened not even a second later, and I almost sighed in relief that it was a person I knew who stepped in.
But to my dismay, it was neither Killian nor Nicholas.
It was Maelyn.
She stepped in with another woman, and both of them were wearing red like me. Maelyn looked stunning in her red shimmery gown, and the lady beside her also donned a hat and gloves. They both looked around smugly and I assumed it to be her mother or some distant aunt because their features were similar to an extent.
Maelyn was looking around at the abundance of wealth with wide eyes, and the two were gushing about the abundance.
But then her eyes fell on me, and her smile disappeared. She immediately grew sulky and then whispered something in the ear of the lady beside her.
That woman immediately looked at me, and her expression grew angrier the more
Maelyn continued to speak.
No doubt she was filling her head with nonsense about me.
The woman patted Maelyn’s arm reassuringly, and they both began heading towards me of all people.
Maelyn had a scowl etched on her face, but the woman smiled at me and said.
“I am Lady Victoria, and this is my niece Maelyn from the Grudel kingdom, And you are?”
I had no idea what or where Grudel was.
“Nice to meet you, Lady Victoria. I am Valencia.” I supplied.
Maelyn whispered something in her aunt’s ear again, and the woman asked.
“Are you not from here? I haven’t seen you before at the royal court.”
I shook my head.
am new here.”
Again, Maelyn did the same thing, and Victoria said with a thoughtful expression.
“I see. You are wearing red, so I believe you must be from one of the royal families.”
Ahh, now I got it.
Maelyn had an issue with my wearing red.
“I was given the dress by Prince Killian as a gift, he is the one who brought me here.” said finally.
Maelyn looked in the direction of Martin angrily, and I assumed she was angry his fiance had not given her one.
Lady Victoria smiled and took a step closer.

“May I?” she asked, and I nodded to allow her to feel the fabric of my sleeves.
“Elorin silk,” she mumbled and added, “It is not given to females easily even within the royal court.”
Maelyn’s scowl deepened as she looked back at her own dress.
“I am betrothed to the eldest prince. How dare she wear Elorin silk in front of me? This is a disgrace! I demand that she be stripped of that dress right
away!”
What?
