Chapter 67
Valencia
Maelyn shouted in a shrill voice, and I suddenly realized what game she was playing. She realized nobody was around to support me, so she wanted to bully me.
But this was a royal court, for fuck’s sake. They would not let just anybody get stripped in the royal court,
noble or
not, right?
Maelyn looked livid, and the color of her cheeks was now as red as crimson as the dress she was wearing.
She was fuming and had gathered the attention of quite a few people around us. I looked at them and realized I knew none of them.
A man wearing black robes and sporting a silver beard looked at the ruckus Maelyn was causing and asked.
“What is the issue, Miss Maelyn of Grudel?”
“It is Lady Maelyn,” she hissed, and the man nodded.
“Of course, of course, but that title has to be awarded by the King or his offspring for me to use it to honor you, dear. I am just playing by the rules, and I mean no offense.”
He bowed his head and smiled at Maelyn, though I could tell he found her irritation at the details amusing.
Was everybody at this court just wicked and prying on each other every chance they could?
Lady Victoria cleared her throat and said.
“Let us not deviate from the topic, Maelyn. She is new here and says that Prince Killian gifted her this silk.”
The man caught those words and looked shocked.
“Is that so? I haven’t heard of that prince taking an interest in any females. I almost was convinced he wasn’t particularly fond of the opposite gender.”
That made Maelyn snort, and the man almost winked at her.
Now they were mocking Killian?
“What is your fucking problem, Maelyn? Can you not run over to Martin
O
I Sir Nicholas to help you with your issues?”
I asked rather loudly, and the mention of that man stirred those giggling with
as well a few surrounding people.
The man who had just joked about Killian turned his head to me.
“Sir Nicholas? Do you know him?”
He asked, and I nodded. “He was the one to invite me to this feast tonight.”
Hearing that, Maelyn screeched like a banshee,
“No fucking way! He would never do that.”
But that made her aunt give her a puzzled look
“Why would you worry about what some noble of the court does or does not, dear niece of mine?”
The question made Maelyn pause for a second.

Chapter 67
She flipped her hair and raised her finger at me.
“She is lying through her teeth. She lies about being the Blessed One, lies about being Morwenna’s ancestor and is trying to snatch Martin from me. She just wants every possible man who has a claim to the throne for herself so she can become the queen.
What ridiculous bullshit was she spewing?
“The Blessed One,” A few gasped in shock, and now a few more people began looking at us.
I didn’t like being the center of attention in this debacle.
And Maelyn was not liking that either, it seemed.
“Just get her to strip that dress off. It is not right for her to wear it even before I have gotten a chance.”
Maelyn was behaving as if this silk were some heavenly treasure and I had gained access to the throne.
“Perhaps, it might not be very nice of us to strip the Blessed One. I request you to exercise patience.”
The man tried to reason with Maelyn, but she was having none of it. Stomping her feet, she came forward to stand directly in front of me.
“Tell me who gave this to you? Did you steal it from one of the royal wardrobes? How did you even get access to the private chambers of King Aecidus himself?”
She threw her hands around like a toddler with a temper tantrum and kept demanding me to take the dress off.
“Listen, Maelyn, you can take this dress if you like it so much. I have no liking for silk or jewels. Just let me get to my room and change into something else.”
I offered instead of shouting back at her. I was heavily outnumbered, and Killian’s words of how I should try to make friends here rang in my head.
So, I tried to play it cool and not get angry.
However, my words made Maelyn give me a scathing look.
“Look! Is that how you talk to the heir’s betrothed? She expects me to wear a dress she wore!!”
She looked around, and her aunt patted her back sympathetically.
“I will strip you of that dress and burn it to ashes, you ungrateful woman!”
She snarled and looked around.
“This woman is not from any of the known kingdoms. She has also been unsuccessful at producing the mark when we asked her about it at Seranthyne!! am convinced she is just here to rob the kingdom of the riches. Maybe she is a spy sent by an enemy of Elorin.”
Maelyn was theorizing wildly and saying whatever came to her mind without even thinking it straight. Her words were absurd, and her anger childish.
But nobody seemed to object to her. It looked like most were casual bystanders who wanted to see how it all played out before taking any side.
And if they did, they would definitely pick hers.
This felt like highschool instead of a royal court, for Goddess sake. And I was finding it increasingly difficult to keep a calm head.
The people around began to whisper, and Maelyn didn’t want the fire to die down, so she added.
“Just last night, she tried to force herself on Martin. And she also has Prince Killian wrapped around her finger because he is too nice and trusting of people.”

Chapter 67
“I wasn’t the one trying to seduce Martin. You should try to keep a check on your betrothed rather than running to other courtiers late at night the Si
Nicholas.”
I finally blurted out.
Her aunt was the one to gasp loudly.
“What did you say?”
I nodded, “Last night she was behind locked doors with Sir Nicholas and moaning his name loudly.”
“How dare you, bitch?” She snarled and ran towards me to knock me down.
I stumbled back, and she took advantage of that to grab my sleeve and dig her nails into it.
“You ungrateful swine!” She was screaming and tore off one of my sleeves like a maniac.
“I am going to make you walk around these halls naked for your deed!” she said and lunged at me again.
